Samsung has put in considerable R&D into its innovative technologies. So have HTC, Motorola and VIA. Apple shouldn't be stealing these technologies without paying licensing fees. It's a shame that they're allowed to get away. One company puts in the hard work and another just profits off it? No way.
Ironically, Apple is doing the very same thing which they accuse Samsung of!

Not really. Common FRAND licensing fees are 1-2% per chipset per patent (sometimes per patent set/pool). 2.4% is disproportionate. Here's a metaphor: every car crossing a bridge must pay a toll. But then one day a gorgeous babe is driving the car, and the tollkeeper wants her to sleep with him. Out of metaphor, the car is apple and the babe is called iPhone. Apple is also against double dipping: if intel is already paying the royalties to Samsung on the chips, Apple does not want to pay them again to Samsung. Double dipping has already been often ruled unfair in other markets, let's see what happens in the telco industry now.

Roberto Avanzi Well, the person owning the bridge has a right to ask the babe to sleep with him! it's her choice and he's not forcing her.
Whether or not the 2.4% is sufficient is for the courts to decide. The main point is that Apple is stealing the patents of HTC, VIA and Samsung without compensation.

another misleading headline, Samsung wants 2.4%....... PER FRAND PATENT, adding up to 9.6% per device.... which of course is absurd for a FRAND patent. so Absurd the Judges in these cases are going to look at Samsung as a joke from now on, and treat them like that for everything that also comes their way.......
worse, if this is the best Samsung can do, they are in for a very very hard time. if they had real patents to use in this fight, why pick out ones that are a joke? and will be laughed out of court with?
what is up with that?

Maybe the reason Samsung is asking for 2.4% is because they haven't been paid by Apple for licencing its technology for over 2 years? Apple can't just ignore paying a patent if it arbitrarily decided it was unfair (they should've negotiated).

for over two years? Samsung never mentioned these patents until 2010, and only after Apple sued them, These patents are standards body patents... meaning that you have to license them fairly.... NO FRAND PATENT GETS 2.4%, worse Samsung doesn't want 2.4%, they want 9.6% one for each patent...
now here is the crux of it... Samsung didn't tell the standards bodies about these patents, which is a big no no.... not only will Apple have to pay much much less, Apple will get these patents thrown out completely in an Antitrust lawsuit for Samsung's fraudulent representation to the standards bodies.
this isn't even close, this is going to go very badly for Samsung.

Jon Carlson They can ask as much as they want, and the court will figure that out what's fair. Most likely, Samsung had a gentleman's agreement with Apple about the whole patents thing until Apple decided that they needed to litigate them out of the market. Expect many other patent-holders to go after Apple now that the snowball is rolling.

to have a "gentleman's" agreement, you have to have a gentleman. Samsung hid it's patents from a standards body that they pushed their tech to standardize on....
they basically committed fraud. and they will pay for it. by the way, apple said in court that these patents were never disclosed before 2010 to them, saying it in court means that it is true lest apple be accused of the same fraud Samsung committed and is now on recorded as committing...
and yes a judge (in france) will decide how much the fee is, and it will be no where near 9.6%
