Amazon Kindle Fire Official Demo, Android-based, 7-inch display, $199 price tag & Specification

Michael Clements
Even though the price is numerically the same, it is actually a premium because it should drop over time. Amazon should deduct the monetization over the interval between when you purchased it and when you "upgrade" to eliminate the ads. The longer you wait, the more money Amazon has made on the ads and the cheaper it should be for you to upgrade.

That is a ridiculous idea. Or is it tongue 'n cheek? I'll assume the later...

I for one kind of like the special offers that are made available though the Kindle with Special Offers. It get's annoying when I see some TV show advertised on my kindle - but it more than makes up for it when I get a $20 off marketing promotion...

This is a great move by Amazon. Remove the finality of the decision and there's no reason NOT to get the offers. So assuming the program is as liked as it seems to be, letting people remove them will probably _increase_ the number of SO customers. Meanwhile it offers customers choice and looks like good customer service. Great all around.

So does anyone know if the new Kindles have different screen savers? I LOVE the Kindle, but one of my biggest pet peeves has been those screen savers they force you to have (I seriously jailbroke my Kindle only so that I could get rid of those things.) I'm interested to know if they've been updated at all.

I used my Kindle Special Offers to get a brand new 13" MacBook Air for under $1,000! Pay $30 to miss out on deals like that? They have more than paid for the Kindle!

Wish they would give me a $30 Amazon gift card to activate special offers on my Kindle which currently doesn't have them.

I would love the option to ENABLE Special offers on my Kindle 3g. They seem totally reasonable.
