The Bechdel Test for Women in Movies

Horrible, horrible Idea...price wise this makes 0 sense and I've been waiting for this to come around...you'd be better off with $10-$15 no matter how you try to spin $60 (2 Adults, 2 Kids tickets prob about $35 plus food), you're there...you don't think about the cost as much v. $60 sitting in your house...get in the consumer's head...

I wonder how much a studio would have paid you as a consultant to lay out exactly how to make their strategy work... and then completely ignore you.

I'm sure that they did pay someone who told them this and then completely ignored them.

Yes, they got the price point wrong. But, digital on-demand delivery of first-run movies is coming. I have always held that the advantages of day-and-date distribution will push the on-demand business to become an increasingly large part of the industry’s future revenue stream.

That is about the price of a Pay Per View event, which may be where they are basing their pricing ideas. I love what they are trying to do but this seems to miss the mark.

Right and it works for live events because it's an *event* - there's simply no other (legal) way to view it as it happens if you're not physically there. That value prop doesn't apply to movies, not even while they're still in theaters.

New dvd's are $20. Pricing on-demand there makes more sense, and they don't have all the manufacturing and supply line costs to account for. There is little chance I will pay $60 to RENT a movie.

here's how it was explained to me.. if you have a family, it is a better deal then going to the theater to see the movie. Home cooking, keep the kids at the house and no concessions! A big deal for the families! Not good for singles or small families.

Kevin Smith just did this with Red State. He took it on tour to a few theaters along with a Q&A after the movie. It's on On Demand now for $10 and will be going to theaters in a larger release soon.
