Whedon Explains the Difficulty of a Hulk Movie

HULK SMASH CATHETER!
LB1984.
I liked Incredible Hulk.. And I have respect for Fiege, but this statement is just laaaame. Ok, we get it, there won't be a Hulk solo film (at least) before Avengers 2. No need to justify "why" he thinks a Hulk movie is difficult.
the_hitman86.
I think it may have been a worthwhile endeavour to have Ruffalo cameo in some of the other Avengers characters' movies during "Phase 2". Not necessarily as The Hulk.
blizkil.
I agree with Joss Whedon, but cameos in other movies or shows like S.H.I.E.L.D. would be perfect
Skinnedham.
There actually were Banner moments in Planet Hulk. Maybe they could expand a bit on those.
Snoop-Tyson-ty.
Really there was like 2 pages
HardcoreDeadlygamer.
Wait, why does a Hulk movie only have to be about the Hulk? Do these people not understand that Bruce Banner is just as important?? I thought Hulk nailed it, but of course, it was too dark for the comic fanboys...
Hyperious.
The first Hulk movie was too boring for my liking, second better but why not go for a third full on Hulk movie and see if they can nail it?
dorkgeniuz21.
Well I guess in world war hulk hes in hulk form for the entire comic and Im assuming they wouldnt want to change too many things up but I wouldnt mind seeing half banner half Hulk throughout the movie...
Tobiasdd.
Planet hulk was so good and that animated movie didn't do it justice.
DevilmanEX.
I disagree with him. We want to see Hulk smashing sh!t
TheVoidStaresBack.
Now, I'm a pretty big Whedon fan, but I think he's wrong about this. Especially in a Planet Hulk setting where Hulk talks and just gets to BE Hulk because he actually fits into the world, rather than sticking out. I disagree, but I don't make movies, so I'll bow to JW's logic...I'm sure he'll be thrilled.
dorkgeniuz21.
He basically thinks ruffalo wouldnt want to be in an all or mostly cgi'd movie but why doesnt he ask ruffalo....I dont think its fair that we wont see hulk until the next avengers as if hes some side character...i want to continue to see hulk and banner grow
Hopes0.
Do you want our money or not?
MANCITYhasBANK.
Stand alone movie with cameos from other marvel super heroes. Problem solved
Johnny0779.
Yeah, that's call the avengers!
Snoop-Tyson-ty.
We dont need anymore hulk movies..... :-)
taipower88.
Hulk has crappy enemies. There's a reason BATMAN & X-MEN are the best comic book movies around.
Snoop-Tyson-ty.
No cgi is key to a hulk movie.... ;-)
liebevision.
So you want a crappy bodybuilder in body paint.....?
Fafonio_162063.
Yes we want one like that
godtorron.
a bodybuilder with some force perspective shoots would look better the and be cheaper then a CGI hulk or done like hellboy just a guy in a suite
TonyNacho.
I still don't understand the problem. Why not make a Hulk movie that everyone would wanna see? You can characterize the Hulk just as well. I don't see why it being a movie changes that fact. You're constantly seeing the Hulk's POV in Planet Hulk and how he has every reason to be mad. I call bullshit on Joss Whedon. It's very silly to think the reasoning against this movie is because Mark Ruffalo won't be in it enough. I just don't understand why that's a factor.
thaliusmain.
without ruffalo it's just a CG animated movie. Planet Hulk already has an animated movie, go watch that.
skang2020.
i'm calling double bullshit on your comment. we want the CG movie not the cartoon. I know your just being silly, i hope, but just why? -_________- really the animated movie cartoon should be enough after seeing the avengers -__________-
thaliusmain.
Avengers has actors in it. Live action actors.
taipower88.
When Hulk mixes with the X-MEN = Hulk's movies AWESOME.
gambolingman.
Joss has got the right idea like it's a college. Keep him in a group with a study buddy. Never study alone!
drdre74.
and this is why hollywood is crap and can't get anything right most of the time. How are you going to say something wouldnt work and you havent even read the book. Plant Hulk was one of the biggest Hulk storylines in along time and it makes sense asa movie. Im not going to a Hulk movie to see Bruce Banner. Its called Hulk for a reason. Not Banner. The second movie is the best marvel movie next to Iron Man. Way better than captain america and Thor both those movies were trash.
OGRL.
Just get Andy Serkis, he would be the Hulk for the whole movie and he's a very good motion capture actor.
FwipShwipKlip.
Just get Mark to workout, then paint him green. There ya go, the actor will stay involved and we get a planet hulk movie.
blizkil.
I love The Hulk, but it looks like he's always trying to take a shit in these cropped pics
BadAzzLeroyBrwn.
Honestly, people. You'd think Peter David's epic run on Incredible Hulk never happened. What about grey Hulk, Joe Chill, what about Maestro, what about his always hilarious encounters with the skrulls? What about the infamous "Aids" storyline. There's plenty of heart to this character with the right approach.
dmanartist.
Am I the only one who felt Eric Bana did a way better job than Norton at portraying Bruce Banner? Don't get me wrong Norton is a great actor but in the Incredible hulk he never came off to me as a tortured soul trying to contain the beast within. He was too confident and the fact that his backstory wasn't nearly as tragic as Bana's hulk's backstory kind of takes away from understanding why he had so much inner rage. Also, Norton is usually more believable as a villain than a protagonist. I do feel that Ruffalo's portrayal was the best. He got just the right balance of inner rage and social isolation.
TwistedDecayingFlesh.
hang on so its fine to pollute the cinematic history with crap like twilight but a damn hulk film is out the question i think im going to go an smash something now an how about making the film original no comic book adaption or fermented idea thats been around for decades but something entirely new with no preconceptions off how it should go or how much hulk is in it cause im pretty damn sure whedon is smart enough to come up with something original hell he brought us a vampire slayer and a space cowboy
Brock_5amson.
Clearly its harder to make 6 more star wars movies, but not a hulk movie.
Papayamanx0.
If you could Find Rick and Samson, the only two Guys that could keep the Hulk Chill
skang2020.
Does anyone know why the Norton Hulk movie flop at the box office. The CG was good, Norton did a decent job at Bruce Banner, so what the hell happened. The previous Hulk movie did a great job in delving into the dynamics of Hulk's rage in connection with banner's internal complex layers. However the CG was not up to par. As for the back and forth on the next Hulk movie and director's concern for Mark Ruffalo's screen time, I think he should have read World War Hulk 1st to figure out what was so compelling and what we are so in love with. He has a silly excuse about worrying about Ruffalo's screen time, which stop the Hulk movie adaptation; Look at Avatar. World War Hulk is Epic. put the $$ behind it (Avatar style) and watch the returns. One actor such as Ruffalo can not hold up the progress. He doesn't make the Hulk, it was just timing in the Avengers; CG has grown since the 1st Hulk that's all.
scooter427.
I know Banner wasn't in Planet Hulk but there's no reason they can't rewrite it and make it work.
ronpimp.
It's not difficult to make a Hulk movie. Just give Hulk more to say or do. Watch Hulk Planet. Now that is a good Hulk Movie example. in all the movies or the shows the Hulk hardly says anything much other than "hulk smash" and growls and grunts. It's more of a challenge for the actor to actually start acting instead of just growling.
Alienfish.
Banner needs to be cocky. He has a reason from Avengers to get that way too in his new ability to become the hulk when he wants to. "I'm always angry." This phrase alone could be used to build a relationship between Banner and Hulk instead of having Banner fight it the whole time. Make a movie where Banner actually is becoming the Hulk mentally. Joss, you have to have some creative freedom here, SO USE IT!!! Banner/Hulk is in itself a conflict and that's all you really need to do in a movie is to resolve that to make the movie (unless it's a horror). Movie starts out with Bruce still having trouble trying to control the Hulk and he makes a mess all around the city. He rethinks trying to control the beast and instead goes about trying to become the beast and get inside its head. End of the movie would have an epic battle with a powerful, yet intelligent enemy who is holding his girlfriend, whatever her name is, hostage while Bruce struggles successfully to bring his consciousness into play in order to approach the situation in a more strategic and controlled fashion. Character growth man, you can't keep all the characters the same. Don't brush this off as something that can't be done. I just did it and I'm far from being a professional writer/idea man.
micksick.
and in the avengers banner clearly shows that he can control the hulk. he turns at will. and thats clear. so...
micksick.
just a bunch of jibber jabber..... more hulk less banner. thats the problem with the other movies, there was too much banner. banner is freaking boring, all the "oh i dont wanna be the hulk, blah blah blah. "
applegamer.
So hulk loses his chill at the end of Avengers 2, The Avengers and Ironman's Hulkbuster put an end to Hulk, then starting phase 3 is Hulk being sent off-planet sparking phase 3's Planet Hulk/WWH storyline. Edit: plus if Ruffalo does choose to leave the role of Bruce Banner after Avengers 2, most of Planet Hulk won't be needing him anyway
Tobiasdd.
And another thing rufalo, about that why am I here crap, you're there to try and give live to the character. That's why they mo cap it in the first place. Andy serkis doesn't bitch about not getting to show his face in most his films. Man I hate mark rufalo
YesThatMrNiceGuy.
I think Whedon is beyond amazing and I'm a huge fan but I thought the Incredible Hulk movie nailed it very well. If anything, the first Hulk movie completely missed the mark.
iheartdogs.
I thought ruffalo was excellent as hulk. Now that I think about it ruffalo is good in everything he does. Has he even done a bad film??
Tobiasdd.
Yep, it's called Real Life and he's terrible in it.
Tobiasdd.
That's a good question mark. Why are you here? Do you think that this hulk looked so much better than Notans because cg tech has improved or because rufalo already looks like a mongaloid.
Billykazooie123.
I agree with what he says about a movie being all hulk, but at the same time, they wouldn't necessarily need ruffalo for that movie. They already have a model made for the hulk, just someone else would have to do the mo-cap. But I get it though.
bluebox444.
Well...he has a point. I liked The Incredible Hulk very much (though I greatly prefer Ruffalo's portrayal to Norton's), but it certainly wasn't as entertaining as Iron Man or the Avengers. And I suppose I would attribute that to the factors Whedon is talking about. The Hulk himself is very much an anti-hero, especially in this stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that factor distances him from the popcorn-movie atmosphere you'll find in films based on the other Avengers or a movie with all of them together to balance things out. On the other hand, Whedon may be underestimating the fan response to Ruffalo's portrayal and the potential of the character. Mark Waid's remarkable new take on Banner in The Indestructible Hulk shows just how far the concept can go. They could easily make a highly enjoyable film based on that book, especially since it captures a lot of what people enjoyed about Ruffalo in the Avengers. I'm hopeful that as the Hulk gets more mileage in future Avengers projects, Marvel will become more amenable to a stand-alone Hulk project. Perhaps it could be part of the Phase Three films.
Dalinkwent13.
One problem with Hulk is practically nothing can kill him.. While it's cool to see him smash things, he's never in any real danger. I think the Incredible Hulk movie worked because it was more about Banner trying to control The Hulk and constantly being on the run. Yet they can't keep going back to the same plot He works better playing off other's and he himself being a possible threat under the right circumstances.
Count333.
It's simple really to make a Hulk movie with the right balance. In the comics back in the day, Banner became Hulk permanently but with Banner's mind. So he was still intelligent like Banner but was as powerful obviously as Hulk and was still quite capable of rage. Just have that happen. Besides, that's how he was during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and if they are bringing Thanos into the mix then it makes sense overall! Do you hear me Whedon? Just do it damnit!!!
TerrorfistCorp.
Obviously Whedon hasn't read Planet hulk cause if he did he would know that the hulk doesn't just stomp around and grunt in it... Okay he does do it a lot but he also speaks in full sentences and even rises up to become a king. There were a lot of slower moments in PH that I'm sure Ruffalo would kill. Even if its just mo-cap of his face and movement.
Da-1-CrAzy-GaMer.
I have an idea a SHE-HULK movie where hulks sister Jennifer Walters is in critical condition after she was involved in a car accident one her way to a very important case (make hulk and Jennifer Walters both have o type blood) Jennifer Walters takes the risk the risk of the gamma radiated blood and soon after the transfusion Jennifer Walters starts to feel funny but soon she discovers she can become like hulk and keep her intelligence completely intact
DJ-Slush.
But.... it's the Hulk, the fans want it, GIVE IT TO US!
stig4020.
They successfully made a television series of 5 seasons between 1978 and 1982 that even my superhero hating parents watched. The argument that you cannot carry a story with "a protagonist who spends all his time trying to stop the reason you came to the movie from happening" is a load of bull. Banner will always struggle to control the hulk, but it is a part of him that will inevitably reveal itself. It is that struggle that defines the character and sets him apart from other heroes. It is definitely not the reason to not make a movie, as the character has been shown to carry a television series for 82 episodes. I'm sure a 2 hour movie is achievable...
Stunnaz84.
everyone is scared Sh!t less to make a hulk movie :-/
robbathehutt.
While I agree that having the Hulk be the Hulk for the entire movie might be difficult from an actor's perspective, I never found myself rooting for the police or the military in the movies or Mr. McGee in the old TV show. Also Planet Hulk was an awesome story and I doubt the audience would have any problem rooting for the Hulk in that scenario.
kyjon.
The next Hulk movie needs Bruce at the core and up front. The "I'm always angry" feeling would be the crux of the movies conflict and then just enough of The Hulk smashing Ben Grim to putty would be epic.
cjjohnson86.
Hulk just does not stand well as an individual in a movie. Although the character itself can be interesting, Hulk just holds up better as a supplemental/ supportive character much like he was in avengers.
darthpibe.
So after all theres going to be the hulk on avengers 2.

I always preferred Ang Lee's version. I don't think he 'nailed it' because, once you've delved into why Banner is so full of rage, where do you go from there and have both him and his id be heroes? For my tastes, there was something just a little bit too fluffy about the Norton version. I like that they essentially treated him like a guided missile in Avengers; he's a scary concept when there's nothing that needs trashing, but when there is? Just point him at it and let him go to work.
WanderinRaider.
I totally agree with you. Ang Lee's version had more substance, it felt more mature. When it comes down to the HULK character design, I think Avengers nailed it, looks more like classic comic book HULK.
sharkpaul.
More so, the PUNY GOD dialogue. WOW!
NintendoDreamcastU.
I likes Ang Lee's version but then again looking back at the movie, Hulk looked more like a pissed off Shrek...
TwistedDecayingFlesh.
it was shrek wasnt it
Wii-beat-ps3-jackass.
Oh my NintendoDreamASSu, you are so witty. Uh I mean shitty.
sharkpaul.
Respect that.
micksick.
no, it did not, well they nailed the hulk at the end. but everythimng leading up to the end was broing. More HULK less banner.
iM22swEEt.
I think Norton movies was way worse than Hulk. Crappy CGI just killed it for me, on the other hand that HULK was awesome
speedracer216.
I heard they're making World War Hulk right after Avengers 16. I'm sorry, I'm sorry..... RUMOR: World War Hulk after Avengers 16?
sharkpaul.
Watching with our grandchildren then.
Recruit17.
They should make a Nick Fury origin movie
WanderinRaider.
They could tell the story of how white Nick Fury became bla......Samuel Jackson.
006Charizard.
They should do exactly not that.
sharkpaul.
Ok, but not the actor with the name David.
sharkpaul.
I'm sad.
speedracer216.
At least we'll always have The Amazing Bulk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywaR-Lq_ayk
Neno2480.
More deja vu; I said this before: All they need to do is have the Hulk constantly battle Banner inside of himself for control. Any reflective surface (mirror, water, chrome, etc..) can start a conversation between Hulk and Banner. It isn't that difficult. It shows that there is a personality in the Hulk and that Banner is TRYING to work with him. This also gives Ruffalo screen time. Or even say screw it and go the EMH route and have Banner/Hulk show up anywhere and make them seem like a crazy person talking to an empty space. It can be done.
DE4N01234.
Kind of like Gollum/Smeagol.
M-C-Stanky.
I think it would work better with a Jekyll and Hyde film, but would be awesome to see. Giving Hulk the ability to converse with Banner may be tricky to accept, but Jekyll and Hyde would be perfect.
Rev8691.
You know with all of these reboots and adaptations of old stories lately, I am really surprised they haven't made a new Jekyll and Hyde.
WanderinRaider.
I don't know if you guys know this, but Stan Lee basically said that the Hulk is Jekyll & Hyde mixed with Frankenstein's Monster.
Guest.
More like Deja Woo
sharkpaul.
Well said, amigo!
Guest.
Incredible Hulk was a badass Hulk movie, as good if not better than any of the other Marvel movies
em4rtz.
If thats the one with Norton then yea I thought it was pretty good too.
Johnny0779.
I rather have Edward Norton play the Hulk again than Rufalo....nothing against Rufalo personally, but when it comes to the way Bruce Baner was portrait I think Norton played him best!
Neno2480.
I agree Norton is a great actor but the subtleties that Ruffalo showed in his acting was way better. Banner is always worried about turning and hurting others. When he got inside the Helicarrier and stayed close to the door so that he had a way to escape in case something happened and his constant "shiftiness" with his hands made it very believable. Norton seemed too confident as Banner. He depended on the Hulk and that isn't Banner's personality.
Johnny0779.
That's what you're wrong, Norton's Banner didn't want the HULK in his life, the movie ended him trying to gain control over that Creature, and Mavel could have taken the time to show a Banner gaining power over the HULK through multiple movies. But naahhh, they jumped right at him already under control. Talking about a waste of oportunity to show a well developed backstory of Bruce Banner.
ren-heok.
Agreed with your last point about the wasted opportunity. I would also like to add this to your point about Norton's Banner. At the beginning of the film he was doing everything he could do to learn how to control the Hulk and his goal for most of the film was to find a "cure" for it.
mhannigan.
I absolutely agree with you on that! Edward Norton's Banner is much better developed all around, the character interpretation was much more believable than Rufalo's take. Actually Rufalo looked awkward in that role all together.
Neno2480.
Yeah. He said he didn't want Hulk in his life but he didn't SHOW it. He tried to run away and blah blah but he seemed dependent at times on the Hulk's power. Ruffalo had control of it but you can tell he didn't want it or depended on it. He wanted to solve the issue his way. Not "Swallow the cube" as he said to Black Widow.
mhannigan.
As Johnny0779 said Norton's take was Marvel's waste of opportunity to developed the right story to finally get to a confident Bruce Banner the way he once was and more...but Rufalo's role disregarded all that with this rushed interpretation.
STROUDWESRod.
That's a Directors job to position the actor in a scene. It also falls to the Director to help explain a character to an actor and his internal feelings and motivations. It happens that Whedon was also the writer so he probably gave Ruffalo some pretty good tips. Also Joss Whedon is a WAY better director than Louis Letteriar(Director of The Incredible Hulk) who Edward Norton had to do a movie under. Norton would of been in The Avengers but Marvel didn't want to pay him X amount of $ and I am sure they got Ruffalo for WAY cheaper. Marvel is known to play low ball with Actor salaries.(Side Note: if they don't pay Downey what he wants to return as Tony Stark it is a completely idiotic move and they will suffer because of it.)
Bertuzzi44fan.
gotta remember though it was played at 2 different times in Banners life.
nickovich2370.
I liked the Incredible Hulk. I thought it was a great movie especially from Marvel Studios. However, I respectfully disagree with you in regards to your opinion of Edward Norton playing the Hulk again. Ruffalo was not just awesome as the Hulk but he was more importantly THE definitive Bruce Banner that movies haven't been able to capture before he nailed the part. Norton certainly had the whole "scientist on the run" vibe to his Banner but he didn't come off as the super scientist that Bruce Banner is. I think of Norton's Bruce Banner as Fight Club Banner.
WanderinRaider.
Except when Edward Norton gets mad he turns into Brad Pitt.
sharkpaul.
Norton's a great actor to begin with. I liked his Banner portrayal, with great respect to the source itself.
Sm00bz.
My order from best to worst is: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor.
MojoMaster1979.
Dude, Captain America is always last.....always.
Sm00bz.
I realllllllllly hated Thor.
Superzone13.
I didn't hate Thor, but it was... dull.
sendthis2bill.
both thor and captain america were better than iron man 1 and 2. until i saw iron man 1 again. damn that movie was good. still, i can watch thor and captain america all day, though the scenes at the beginning of thor on jotunheim were too dark (visually) and too dull (for the amount of time spent there).
Thatoneguy335.
Captain American is EASILY the worst of all the phase one films. Lame villain, everything in the movie felt cheesy, the fight scenes were poorly done... it was just bad.
batman1hulk2.
I thought Thor felt cheesier than Captain America. The Asgard parts were great, but the Earth parts were really cheesy.
006Charizard.
The list is definitively: 1. Iron Man (anyone disputing this is fooling themselves) 2. Thor (I NEED A HORSE > any line in Captain America) 3. Iron Man 2 (rewatch it, it's better than you remember) 4. The Incredible Hulk 5. Cowboys vs. Aliens 6. Captain America
Guest.
dont know what cowboys vs aliens is doing on your list but THAT was a shitty movie
WanderinRaider.
Same guy who directed Iron Man directed Cowboys & Aliens.....I think.
WanderinRaider.
1. Iron Man 2. Thor 3. Captain America 4. Incredible Hulk 5. Iron Man 2.......the first one raised my expectations too high.
sharkpaul.
But in the end, it's just your opinion.
Superzone13.
1. Captain America 2. Iron Man 3. Iron Man 2 4. The Incredible Hulk 5. Thor
006Charizard.
Red Skull was the WORST villain hands down. He was worse than Whiplash somehow.
sharkpaul.
Hugo Weaver's portrayal or the comics version?
006Charizard.
Hugo Weaving's portrayal. Weaver's wasn't much better.
EnragedWhitemouse.
that Hugo Weaver is damn good though, Weaving can be hit and miss
Guest.
all of them are great movies overall so theres not much point ranking best to WORST.
Hyperious.
Thor, Iron Man, Cap, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2
STZ513.
Iron Man, Captain America, Iron Man 2, Thor, Hulk. Although even Hulk was fairly entertaining
micksick.
you one right, the res you butchered,,,, iron man, captin america, thor, iron man 2, huik. and thats the truth
Dr_Octavius.
agreed. and then Ruffallo topped it with an even better Hulk/ Banner , he had more depth of subtleties and emotion , Norton's act pushes the edge of smarmy look at me I am an awesome method guy that has done theater in NY kinda thing. Norton was too... confident banner is not like that , but I have seen the film 4 times on DVD and it is fantastic.
micksick.
yeah... not really tho
Guest.
yeah....really X )
micksick.
nah... not really, really doe
sharkpaul.
True.
DrDanger90210.
The answer is duo movies. There could be a movie where Tony Stark and Bruce Banner have to work together to take down a common threat. There would be the interplay between Ironman and Hulk, but equally important would be the Tony/Bruce scientific relationship. Bruce's character could be explored in his struggle to find a cure, Hulk could smash, and Tony Stark would be what connects those two different worlds.
FeedOnATreeFrog.
Great Idea. Stark and Banner movie. Scientist duo. Hawkeye and Black Widow movie. Both shield agents. Both are the 'regular people'. Cap and Thor movie. Starts off with them in the mall watching TV in BestBuy. Hilarity ensues. Fish out of water movie. Both are soldiers as well.
13VenomPool13.
Or they could have Bruce accept becoming the hulk, just like they are doing in the new indestructible hulk story line... I think that would be cool. Or maybe i'm just crazy.
sendthis2bill.
this is what i am hoping for. that banner rode away with stark at the end of avengers was a little detail i hoped had a lot of weight to it. edit: stark even invites banner to his lab. their interaction in the helicarrier was one of my favorite scenes of the movie. /poke /glare
TerrorfistCorp.
That's something they should've been exploring with Phase 2. With Avengers they had their cast and established a world that they all share. So why not have some team-ups along the way to Avengers 2?
spnccarman.
because of contracts, they're only obligated to so many movies. who's the say that chris evans isn't getting tired of playing cap and he is contracted for 4 movies and instead of the avengers 3 his last movie is the magial adventutures of cap and widow or something
Bertuzzi44fan.
they can map it out you know....wouldn't waste Cap with Widow anyways, lol.
TerrorfistCorp.
All I'm saying is if they keep putting off putting the hulk in their movies than Ruffalo will be too old for the part and there goes their awesome casting choice. Use it while you got it Marvel!
KryptonianBatman.
Marvel Team-Up franchise! Marvel Team-Up: Iron Man & Hulk Many other possible pairings too. That's the point of having a expansive movie universe.
Johnny0779.
It sounds more like part of an Avengers movie than a way to have Bruce/Hulk come out on its own two feet!
Venomd.
totally agree ... hulk smash but bannner rocks ... then again we could never have enough hulk smash . planet hulk showed an awesome side to the green goliath
batman1hulk2.
So they won't make a Hulk movie with too much Hulk because they don't want to hurt Mark Ruffallo's feelings? Also, Whedon didn't read World War Hulk? That's a little surprising. The first half of Greg Pak's entire Hulk run started out mostly Hulk, then the Red Hulk absorbs Banner's power and the second half is mostly Banner. That's how the movies should go: 1.) Planet Hulk 2.) World War Hulk 3.) Red Hulk and Skaar as villains and Banner loses and regains his powers
Bane_Chain.
Why don't you have a storyline where Bruce is always the Hulk at some point set in the future and have flashbacks to a time where he wasn't constantly Hulk? I think it could work
the_hitman86.
I think the problem with overdoing scenes with The Hulk is that it could potentially be too much of a CGI-fest. Although it could work. Time will tell.
gamer4f554ba5e4b08.
I hate flashbacks, they enrich the present storyline, sometimes, but they mostly get in the way of what I really want to see.
Generic_IGN_Username.
It would be a problem for future movies in the universe. Then they'd have to refer back to that movie every time just to make sure the continuity is good.
rooroo999.
Who chooses the titles for these articles?
parker29.
Good point. Never knew the title was so bad.
soulreaper31337.
Ruffalo and Whedon could make the perfect Hulk movie.
Johnny0779.
I have to disagree on that! I rather have Edward Norton play the Hulk again than Rufalo....nothing against Rufalo personally, but when it comes to the way Bruce Baner was portrait I think Norton played him best!
jamescvp.
The Incredible Hulk was awesome! He's worried about too much Hulk?! 'After a while Mark would be like, why am I here?' For that God Damn movie check! Are you serious? It's fine that Banner doesn't want to turn into a big green rage monster, I go to see a Hulk movie because I know he WILL TURN and smash shit! These excuses seem kinda pu$$y.
TexasTiki.
what is whedon talking about? Edward Norton's the incredible Hulk was an awesome adaption, plus norton is a way better actor than ruffalo.
busdigga.
Norton may be a better actor, but Ruffalo in my opinion is the better Banner/Hulk
grapes9h5.
I second that exactly
jnco10999.
They could twist Planet Hulk a bit to incorporate a lot more banner. I mean, the Hulk in planet hulk wasn't actually the mindless monster he was in the previous movies. He was smart and could actually think at a higher level, which would be an incredibly jarring transition if they ultimately did that.
batman1hulk2.
Banner shows up at interesting points in the story as well. Banner starred in a special issue called Banner War where the Hulk finally gets a chance to sleep and calms down one night. He transforms back into Banner. Then Banner and the Hulk fight for control inside the Hulk's head, Inception style but on an epic scale. That sequence could be expanded in a Planet Hulk movie to give Banner more screen time.
eon_omega.
Live action planet hulk = Uncanny valley = people bitching about no banner. There is an animated planet hulk that is good because of these reason. I would be more happy if they adapt the one were hulk and banner got separated and banner goes doctor moreau, that covers the banner/hulk screen time dilemma, I guess.
dorkgeniuz21.
That would actualy be perfect....tell Josh Wheden now
blahah.
Think they could go the way of Indestructible Hulk? Seeing how theyve shown Banner being able to Rage On whenever he wants. Work around Banner being conflicted on being used as a weapon for his gains?
13VenomPool13.
I thought that was a good idea as well! although I don't think it will happen it would be one of the best Ideas for the direction of the film... If there will ever be a hulk movie again X(
BendingUnit09.
Not so much whenever but hes achieved pretty good control. Like he says "Hulk happens."
51213.
I completely understand if Marvel never does another Hulk movie , but that doesn't mean he has to be off screen so much. They could easily turn Mark's banner into the "Stan Lee" so to speak of their movies. He could pop in every Marvel studios film as Bruce banner and only hulk out in avengers. A cameo of his in every Marvel studios film would be a great way of keeping him relevent on screen and could just constantly tease the audience of the super badass Goliath that he could become at any moment.
J_S_Mastropiero.
it´s hard?? well that´s a lame ass excuse...
