Big Bang Theory: "Contractual Obligation..." Review

Big Bang Theory: "Contractual Obligation..." Review

thegreatlevithan.
come down hipster its ok to like mainstream things
Ruby Doobie.
you realise not everything has to register on an intellectual level to be funny right? If you really think that then your life must be pretty sad.
garcia_jx.
Anything that is popular sucks--this according to the the ign community. Seriously, every single week, we read the same old comments "this show sucks" this "show blows" blah blah blah.
Mr_Vicious5150.
so this series has peaked at 20 million viewers and all those people have bad taste? how fascinating. Now tell me how Community is a better show.. (no offense to Comunity, I'm not a deuche)
goku_nano.
I am a student of Biotechnology and I think this serie is by far the best comedy now and ever!
thegreatlevithan.
nice hipster joke there,well played
mksystem74.
Why won't commenters like you go away?
Mr_Vicious5150.
Your taste in humor clearly shows in your name
griff63.
yeah lets get rid of a funny show that's one of the highest rated shows out there
sam_w.
It's one of the worst shows on TV. The audience laughter is probably the worst I have ever heard in a sitcom - it's completely ridiculously OTT and every few seconds! Have you tried watching it without the laugh track? Shows how unfunny the show really is without people being told exactly when to laugh... http://youtu.be/jKS3MGriZcs Also, the 'nerd' jokes are so forced, they are the most obvious jokes at what the producers think is geek culture and yet there are so many morons who seem to think the jokes are hilarious.
bruce755.
This show is terrible, it's ok to like mainstream stuff, and hipsters annoy me to no end...but it's just not funny! Not even a little, it's like an Adam Sandler movie, millions of people go see them, but for the life of me I can't figure out why. It's just awful, predictable, cliched jokes...I'm with you on this one dude.
Heyitsathing.
I really do hate this show
MrsDump511.
Why does Ign review such a stupid show?
EricGoldman-IGN.
Because a lot of people who read this site watch the show and read these reviews.
xzeroshockx.
why do you come to the review and comment on it........
camnpat.
Why does IGN review Parks and Recreation and Community, two shows consistently with very poor ratings, when there are many more shows with significant better ratings? Because many readers at IGN watch those shows.
Charles_Buttlicker.
I know, right!
ChrisSousa89.
Because love the show and the fact that 20 million fans watch shows that at least that much find the show to be good. You'd be surprised the kind of people watch it, all types of people. City hall Counsel members to high schoolers and everyone in between.
blkpegsus.
Since u r watching the review on IGN i can only assume that u like videogames, sci-fi movies and superheroes and comics ! so why do u hate the show ???
MythicSoilder989.
If you pay close enough attention to the show, you're not supposed to be laughing with the nerds, you're supposed to be laughing at them. For example, if the subject of World of Warcraft is brought up the laugh track starts, as if World of Warcraft is funny. The target demographic isn't nerds, and I've noticed that many of the people who watch it, generally make fun of nerds. Also that goddamn laugh track. If a laugh track is done well, you wont notice it, however every time I watch this show I'm painfully aware of the damn laugh track and its annoying. Try watching it without the laugh track, it really not funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IhzjuLr2Uk
VampireKingRyan.
Because he likes to be the mainstream hater and has to be like everyone else. It's funny how haters think their comments actually make a difference with things like this.
MythicSoilder989.
Most people who don't like the show don't like it because they don't think its funny. Its a poorly written show that only makes people laugh because the laugh track tells them to. It's not a show for nerds, it's a show about nerds who you're supposed to be laughing at not with. It's a show that thinks that simply mentioning something nerdy is funny, showing its not really meant for nerds, its meant for people who laugh at nerds.
VampireKingRyan.
Well what's funny is the two funniest moments of this episode had nothing to do with them being nerds. Also I could give a crap less about the laugh track because I don't laugh with it. I laugh when I feel that something in the show is funny. Also I find that a lot of times the funny moments don't actually come from nerdy dialogue rather then just something that was just funny.
WAHI1547.
Because we all tune in to see Penny. DUH!!!
Tagglyne.
The whole library thing was stupid. They must've known it would look strange and unrealistic to have them type for a second and then have a voice-over of the actors saying complete sentences. But they did it, anyways. Also, you can't eat inside of a library. Let alone bring a picnic basket. None of that storyline made any sense. If they had cut it from the storyline, they could've had more of the girls at Disneyland. Having three separate stories was a mistake. Especially when one of them was as retarded and not well-thought out at all like Raj's was. They should've just focused more on the other two stories and just had Raj with the rest of the guys. Then, do the first date story better in a different episode. Also, how are the characters evolving exactly? Leonard's a nerd, Howard's a horny nerd, Sheldon's set in his ways and doesn't understand human interaction, Penny's a slut, Bernadette's got a dark side, Amy is an annoying female version of Sheldon who's horny for Sheldon, Raj needs to drink to talk to women, these are all the same recycled jokes they've had for six seasons. It seems like, to the reviewer, the only difference between a good episode and a bad episode is how much screentime Raj had.
Stonefallow.
Have you all forgotten what being a nerd is really like? Of course we are laughing at the nerds, but it is only because it allows us to laugh at ourselves. There are times they go overboard, and certainly there is a discussion to be had there, but don't dismiss the show entirely just because of that. There are also those times that the nerds come shining through, and you remember just how great it is to be one.
lone_sunset.
I agree with most of what you said, but my gripe is that the show perpetuates the stereotype that nerds and geeks are the ones that are bullied, the ones that have zero social skills. I understand that this is for comedic effect, but I would also like to see the show acknowledge the fact the nerd culture is much more than that; it's really about passion for games/comic books/Star Trek, and sharing them with your friends.
TheMetalSgt.
Last time I checked, every single BBT episode has comic/gaming/sci fi themes or at least references etc. They definitely do not fail at that. I don't know how you don't see that everyone one of the "nerd" characters has a passion for ALL of those things in this show.
lone_sunset.
I didn't insinuate that the show fails on those levels; it's definitely the most adept in presenting these interests. The essence of my comment was to address the stereotype that one who has these interests is necessarily one who is bullied, or one who lacks social skills, both of which are perpetuated through the show.
TheMetalSgt.
Yah that you are right. If anything, smarter "nerds" these days actually get quite a bit of attention from women, don't necessarily get bullied either. Well it all depends how confident the person is.
banana403.
I'd be really upset if Raj ended up being gay. Not because of misdirected ignorance or homophobia, but because I think it undermines every joke and every comment he's ever made. Suddenly all those comments (and everyone's subsequent reactions) can be interpreted as mean-spirited or ignorant, where they were really just made in humor and jest.
poorpigg.
Google search is so funny.
kint76.
The quality of the editors is going down hill. " Wolowitz's forced attempt at being cool was a little funny, especially with his shift into M.C. Hofstadter mode," He's talking about 2 diffrent charaters there. Plus he misspelled own. Really guys, have someone other then yourself proof your articles! And if you are already, it might be time to get someone new... Oh and I agree with the whole "Why push Raj as gay? There are straight people that like fasion and partys and such it's not really a big deal.
SAustin316.
Oh man, stay away from the Jason Statham article then, that's like reading a 5 year olds school work.
jeayese.
this episode was dull and slightly boring.. there were some laughs here and there from Bernadette & Howard.. but that was it.. Weak episode. They need to do a claymation episode already!
FoamyBeer.
Raj has "banged" penny.
darksoldierj.
They slept together but they didn't actually do it.
DaCaPn0045.
Every1 should go to the Bakersfield comic con. I love it lol.
SeaweedZombie.
Why does IGN review this crap?
renato_ordonez.
it's a misconception that only hipsters think Big Bang Theory is a horrible show. People think Big Bang Theory is a horrible show because it's a horrible show.
lshafferisgod.
I I mean it is one of the top rated shows so it is bad right. If you don't like it go masturbate to glee
MonkeyHouse143.
I liked this show but its growing old on me. I'd rather just watch a couple Seinfeld reruns.
Thribs.
How do you excite 12 year old girls? :)
TheMetalSgt.
You just have to be 18, and they automatically get excited from my experience. That's not saying I am a pedo lmao, just, they are all so slutty and flirty these days, ESPECIALLY the 12-14 year olds. It's quite annoying.
Bram.
You sound like a pedo. :o
hawk2222.
Is it just me, or is Amy becoming a less likable character? I mean, I'm all for character development, but the thing that originally made me like her character was the fact that she was essentially a female version of Sheldon Now she seems to be moving further and further away from that while he remains consistent in his ways.
darksoldierj.
Do you have problems talking to people you're not attracted to.
darksoldierj.
All right everybody if Raj was really gay he wouldn't have a problem talking to women because, he wouldn't care what women thought of him, since he wouldn't be attracted to them.
southrim.
The thing to remember when watching this episode and others is that Chuck Lorre is a narcissistic and misanthropic individual, and so anything his characters do is doomed to depressing failure in the name of comedy. The guy doesn't do hope spots, so hoping one of the girls would be shown to get interested is a little forlorn.
sliq85.
The episode was just ok but at least we got to see Trouty again
goatjugsoup.
Favorite part of the episode was when they were on speaker to the girls "you can be anything you want" and then penny jumping in with "unless its cinderella" lol
NovaTheDryer.
Raj's episodes are funnier when he drinks... when he said he came up with a way to date the shy girl I thought they would both get drunk or something. Thought the texting thing was a little meh. Episode needed a lot more Grasshopper.
das.rambo.
how do i get 12 year old girls excited ? :P

Why does the person doing this review want raj to be gay? Every week it's always about raj "possibly" being gay. He went on a date with that chick. He was ready to kiss her (unlike sheldon with amy). RAJ IS NOT GAY!!!! Accept it and move on from it!!!!!
broda8121.
Like he's never heard the term "metrosexual" before.
Kratos88.
Seriously, We get it man. You want to have lots of gay sex with Raj. As soon as I clicked on this article I guessed he was once again going to talk about how Raj was the singing star of the show, and mention something about the gay factor. Honestly, the fact that this reviewer seems to assume that Raj jokes about if more feminine side need to either be dropped or go the route of him being gay would be pretty insulting. Talk about blatant stereotypes. This reviewer still fails to realize that these are jokes on Raj not getting the language differences and all that. He complains about how they need to move on from the Raj is gay plot, but he is the only one who keeps bringing it up. I am pretty confident he is only doing this now to try and boost views on his review. It is a ritual of sorts now.
wilbuctini.
I Know, He says the writers need to move on. They have never suggested he is gay, just metrosexual. I swear the reviewer mentions it just to annoy people.
hawk2222.
Metrosexual is a terrible word. I mean, the suffix "sexual" relates to a person's sexuality, while the term "metrosexual" relates to a person's behaviors and mannerisms.
wilbuctini.
Not claiming its a correct word, but that is the general use for it. Also its been used in the show before to describe raj (By Himself) so I thought it was appropriate.
hawk2222.
Oh, I know that. I'm just using your comment as a springboard for the mini discussion, not criticizing or anything like that.
wilbuctini.
Oh yeah I know, Ive noticed the IGN message boards have seemed a lot more civilized lately.
afsarge.
Yeah, I think there are already enough token gays on TV that I don't want to watch. If I wanted to watch gays, I would watch Modern Family or Glee

When the rest of the Internet fails to help you out, you know you'll find assistance on IGN's most recent Big Bang Theory review
Oldschool_1987.
Thank you kind sir ...I think?
RedVIII.
I know, every week the reviewer puts that in. Raj is not gay and I hope the makers of the show will never turn him into one because we don't need another sitcom with gays. (Not that I have anything against them, but it's just a weak way to get more views or to make stupid gay jokes and it would ruin Big Bang)
dima0106.
The reviewer can't tell the difference between a joke and character development.
carloss15.
is not and i hope they never make him gay. metrosexual is fine
dirtyfromdawestcoast.
Raj is a foreigner out of the group. That is his strenghth but its also his weakness. He has got some ass during the series..hell he laid naked next to penny at one point but didnt have sex with her. Some people cant even get that far in real life that doesnt make them gay
gottennks.
yeah seriously wtf this was a great episode for raj
Xlydven.
Sheldon is more gay
alfredo50490.
that is because he really is a gay in real life
Xlydven.
:O
The_Hokage.
The REAL shocking news about him is that he's 40
gottennks.
didn`t know he was gay but i did know was 40
TheMadcapLaughs.
I always assumed he was like Tobias Funke, where his more effeminate tendencies are obvious to everyone but him. I do wonder why the reviewer mentions it in every review...
AlwaysTexan.
At times, it does seem like that's all the reviewer cares about. Every week we hear how Raj is "carrying the show" and "must be gay, because he's written that way". Enough already. Jim Parsons is an absolute treasure every week yet this yutz never seems to notice.
Ajirax.
GOD, so annoying ... The worst is that the reviewer wants us to believe that's the show creator's idea ("they didn't give up the idea"), not just him who can't see a guy who likes proms without thinking he's gay. Why this obsession ? Raj has got "girly" tastes since s01, please stop talking unless there are actual clues, you're boring people.
SAustin316.
The writers are intentionally putting it out there that Raj MAY be gay (to the audience at least), it's not the fault of the reviewer for picking up on it and wondering if it could lead some where.
goatjugsoup.
I don't think its the reviewer, even if they are all red herrings the show has been throwing a lot of suggestions that raj is gay, pretending otherwise is ignorant
ZeroBahamut1285.
This show sucks, why does IGN review any episode from it? Crap, poop, garbage. Moving on.
staple_gun.
If this reviewer insists that Raj(and by extension, Stewart) is gay due to how they act together, I'd hate to see what he thinks of Troy and Abed on Community.
parker29.
Troy and Abed in the morning may have an all new meaning.

I agree, it started off so good (that Google search is still hilarious when I think about it) but then it fizzled out. I do enjoy when Bernadette gets mad though. She goes psycho, but not full psycho... you never go full psycho. Raj's date was pretty entertaining, loved how Lucy just bailed at the end because of a panic attack.
Cerberus5000.
The fact that Sheldon has had so many problems or near problems with Google searches (his searching for Plutonium on Amazon, combined with his hacking into a government defense computer, among others) and hasn't ended up in a federal prison will always astound me.
keithvdw.
If the federal government actively investigated everybody who search on Google for things like plutonium or terrorist type materials, they'd never get anything done. It's only if they actually find a supply or such and seriously try to purchase things that would trigger... wait a minute, why am I providing a serious answer? Because it's a sitcom.
VampireKingRyan.
That and Bernadette in the car were my two favorite moments of this episode. Honestly one day Sheldon will be in deep trouble for his Google searches.
c0nceptbf2.
The first few seasons were better but this show still delivers the goods compared to most sitcoms on TV currently. Keep it coming!
Tagglyne.
Why does the reviewer love Raj so much? He's one of the weak links of the show.
VampireKingRyan.
While I won't say his parts are bad I'll admit that I don't think his part on this Episode was much funnier then the rest of the show.
keithvdw.
I was wondering this too. This bit with Lucy actually isn't half-bad, but the endless string of "Raj acts like his flamingly gay but misses all the jokes about it" jokes has gotten really, really stale. That aside, I think I laughed more in this episode than I have in quite a few episodes.
Mr_Vicious5150.
They can be hit or miss, the one where he explains how him and Stewart fills each others holes was funny
HDLuffy.
yah any raj parts i just mute or go get a snack tbh
salvogdaze.
I think Raj is one of the funnier men in the show. I like how he's emotional and sensitive and I don't think that's related to his sexuality. I'd like to see a gay character in the show, but I don't think it'll be him. That said, it's almost always the female characters that get a loud haha out of me. You just can't beat Amy and Bernadette and their unconventional friendship with Penny. For me the show really started to shine after the former two became regulars. On a side note, I hardly ever find Sheldon funny. Essential character, just not so funny and that's fine.
B00chtron.
Is it just me or are all of pennys lines mostly just demeaning herself and how slutty she is
ShawnyShawnShawn.
Yup. Not funny at all. But she's only there because she has nice T&A
salvogdaze.
Yeah I noticed that a lot, it's a shame the writers seem to not so much care about her personality and traits. I remember seeing her acting once compared to the many times she's either drinking or talking about her past dates.
Navstar86.
The gag at the beginning with Sheldon about to Google that peculiar subject was the best part.
General_ZOD.
I don't give a damn what you assclowns say...I watch this show. Problem?
SpartanIV.
What's so bad about googling "How to excite 12 year old girls"? Hold on, I'm going to check it out... Oh... God... So much Justin Bieber....
Bram.
Comment of the day!
BShoc.
This Jesse clown seems completely incapable of grasping the concept of some guys being feminine without being gay. Raj is a metrosexual, and they play off that for comedic effect. That in no way translates to him actually having a lust for wang. Also, does no one proof-read this stuff before it's posted? The writing is embarrassing.
Absolute_Jason.
No intelligent man would be interested in a moron like Penny.
Thribs.
Lets be serious. You would sleep with her if she asked you to?
Absolute_Jason.
If she showed me recent negative test results.
salvogdaze.
You sound like an intelligent man.
waszzzup.
Yeah cause smart people are not shallow your an idiot.
Absolute_Jason.
Use periods to separate independent clauses. Also it should be "you're an idiot." Don't forget your conjunctions.
Speedster116.
You're*
shadket.
Who cares, she is hot hot hot.
Atakan Onol.
Then I guess that just about every man is not intelligent
Absolute_Jason.
Really? She's not that great. There are way hotter women out there who aren't annoying. And now that the other women are on the show, she's a marginal character.
ChrisSousa89.
Again with Raj being gay? Honestly? Do you have something against gays that you insist that anything"feminine" is considered "gay"? This reviewer has issues and needs to shut up with Raj being gay already.
SAustin316.
Come on now, lets face it, Raj is being written the way he is in order for his sexuality to be questioned, there is absolutely no denying that, there's no need to chastise the reviewer for picking up on the writers intentions.
Oblivion170.
Ok people if you don't like this show then its just not FOR you. I don't go over to the glee reviews and bitch about your show.
Charles_Buttlicker.
WHY WON'T THIS SHOW GO AWAY!!!
EricGoldman-IGN.
Because nearly twenty million people are watching each episode, making it by far the biggest comedy on TV these days.
ZeusThunderGod.
What about American Idol, Two and a Half Men, NCIS, Miami Vice and (insert random shitty MTV show)? 20 Million people doesn't make it a good show.
jeonyboy.
Read again. He didn't say the reason is because the show is good. He said the reason is that the show is by far the biggest comedy on TV these days. Learn to read.
alfredo50490.
Two and a Half Men is terrible now a days.
drdvdplayerhandbook.
Wait, what? Two and a Half Men is still going? Why? Is there anyone out there who actually likes Ashton Kutcher?
RedVIII.
TAAHM was always terrible.
Oldschool_1987.
Well look how many people love Twilight and that IS a good movie so sometimes amount of fans is right. I've just realised what I've said. *Kills self with rusty spoon*
WAHI1547.
spoon??
Oldschool_1987.
A rusty one. Gotta be the most agonising death and well deserved after what I said about Twilight lol.
Thribs.
Hey! NCIS is awesome. How dare you attack it.
VampireKingRyan.
You beat me to it. NCIS is a great show.
Speedster116.
I agree NCIS is great but the rest of those shows are complete garbage.
broda8121.
Wait, Miami Vice? Didn't that show end, like, 25 years ago? Or has there been a remake that would fall under the category of "these days" that I have completely not noticed?
Charles_Buttlicker.
Your rationale makes sense, but I don't like it!
keithvdw.
Volume wins. Same reason this show gets so many trolls who come in to the comments section for no reason other than to bitch about the fact that other people are watching this show.
garcia_jx.
Exactly!
Links_Revival.
Because it's funny.... Get that giant hipster stick out of your ass.
IIMurrMan.
Show is not funny. The jokes and references to nerd culture are tired and lame. But hey, not everyone can have good taste. Keep watching.
LuxAchilles.
Humor is subjective. Millions of people think it's funny, therefore it is funny to them.
Links_Revival.
Thank you for your opinion. Have a good day!
IIMurrMan.
Thank you, would not expect such an ignorant person to be polite, you have a good day as well big guy :)
metalmaster316.
You're calling him ignorant... are you kidding me
