crazy stuff.. I always thought u need to get out of the internet to spend some good time with someone special... I hope thr wont be an app for couples to interact during their honeymoon :)

i remember when a special person enlightened me w similar sociological wisdom abt cell phones. and email. oh and texting.. and facebook. crazy how my grandpa now uses all of these things to stay in touch. seriously, why are you reading tech crunch? isnt there some shortsighted late-adopting hypocrisy butter that you should be churning instead?

Luckily this product exists for people that are in long distance relationships. Not all of us are fortunate enough to be able to see their significant other as often as we would like. I think the concept is amazing. People already love to overshare their relationship information on Facebook and Twitter. This give a couple a fun/private forum. I am definitely down for an application/website that helps to enrich my relationship. Why not?!

I like that ! :)

This service is very similar to the service, Between, which I created. (I'm member of South Korea start-up). Our Service is targeted to couples, as Theicebreak does, and popular in App Store of South Korea. We provide both of iOS and Android platform. English version is also available, so you can check it out. you can contact us on http://appbetween.us :)

Many of my friends and I use Between and it's GREAT.
It's more of a messenger app that you use exclusively with your partner. I find this a lot faster than other apps like WhatsApp and cheaper than text messaging. And it's so PRETTY
Worth the download. Definitely give it a try!!

This is weird and gross.

This could save relationships as we know it. Communication in relationships esp 2 busy couples is increasingly hard. Wish I had this with my last girlfriend...

When I read "social network for couples" I thought they meant each couple gets one account. So as to help couples meet other couples. I was on board with that. Not sure about the rest of you but my wife and I have a hell of a time finding other couples to hang out with. Her friends have been married a few years and have babies at home (ie no social life). My friends are all single guys living the single life (ie don't bring your wife around). Would one of you people who are way smarter than me please build this social network?

My husband and I are in the same boat Jim. And I had the same thought you did about the point of this app. I think calling it a social "network" and naming it theicebreak (which implies meeting new people) is extremely misleading and kind of a stupid play by the company... why make it sounds like you're addressing one need when, in fact, you're addressing a different one altogether? And, really, is keeping in contact with our SO a need that has not already been filled by things like email, text messages and Facebook? (Not to mention actually CALLING one another or, heaven forbid, seeing each other face to face!)
This app is absurd. The only way this company will stand a chance whatsoever of succeeding is if they threw out their idea completely and came out with what you said: an ACTUAL social network for couples to meet other like-minded couples.

I just pitched this type of idea to my wife. In that FB doesn't give any special features for couples, married or otherwise. things like mutually shared albums, etc.

That would just make divorces messy trying to undo shared photos...and babies

so this was a Series A financing round with your wife as an investor?

This is crazy, but interesting application. I think that this would be a great way for couples to communicate, but I am curious as to the privacy involved. A lot of applications and social media sites are making it to where your phone + the site/app automatically updates information about you. Is their a privacy aspect to where the user has control or does the application choose the control?

We are *very* serious about privacy. Theicebreak keeps your data either completely private, or anonymous. Only your partner knows your identity.

We have a simple privacy summary, as mentioned here: http://theicebreak.com/privacy

Dwipal Desai Thank you. I am sure others wanted to know that too. You get an insta LIKE and share on FB for that. Awesome customer care!

Dwipal Desai - get rid of the. Haven't you seen "the social network" ;) ;) hahaha.

but seriously, do you have the data to show the increase of downloads after a feature of techcrunch? (I am a new user bc of this story... and I'm sure there are more)

Totally, soon their is going to be an app for people sharing things with their pets:DD

Derek Marler · Top Commenter · Designer at WePay
Stan Chili Palmer There's already social networks for pets. And yes, FOR pets, meaning the pet has their own profile and 'role play'.

Funny idea, but I don´t get it:) Couples should talk more and spent time more with each other, instead of talking and spending time with their iPhones. It´s kind of like Proust, which is for families and close friends to answer questions and share family photos and stuff! Proust is really cool, as families don´t see each other every day!
