Want A Piece Of Founders Fund’s Latest $625M Fund? Start By Trying To Change The World |
@Charlie McHenry
So I've got this poetry & music app project that will definitely change the world. Ima gettin in line.
@Martin Crampton
"California dreamin', on such a sunny day..."
@Timothy James Brown
we want to change sharing to requesting... so you can control what you see and improve the ability to see experiences rather than just pictures of lunch :) www.reqvu.com.
@Emmanuel Ruggiero
I don't like to criticize too much but here it's to help you out. I've just read your first page and you need to change the text:"Reqvu is a mobile application that lets you "put yourself in the moment" by letting you make requests for pictures and videos to your friends and others of experiences that you can’t have first-hand but don't want to miss out on." This is waaaay too long for one sentance and I think its kind of confusing for the avg consummer. I mean I understand the purpose of the company but there should be a better way to explain it than this. Take my advice or ignore it, I don't care, Im just giving MY feedback, others might disagree...
@Timothy James Brown
Emmanuel Ruggiero thanks for the feedback! will consider a rewording for sure.
@Ben Cannon
Let me at 20% of that fund - and I'll be in space before Rutan and Branson.
@Luis Daniel Arbulu
Typo: "$625K fund"... $625K will get you AirBnB for plants (I actually think I saw that at some accelerator once).
@Michael Abehsera
hahahahaha "AirBnB for plants"
@Alexia Tsotsis
Also fixed.
@Semil Shah
Don't forget Votizen, too.
@Aleksey Korzun
Dumb headline. If you are changing the world, you would not need a piece of their fund. They would be begging you to take a piece of it.
@John Rampton
Sometimes those things do need money to get going... especially in the beginning
@Vadim Berman
Only in the movies. Although "change the world" is such a trite cliche that I'm sure it will be spent on the likes of Oink.
@Tony Tomlinson
Michael Jackson said it best, "If Want To Make the World a Better Place, Take a Look at Yourself, And Then Make A Change." In Q1 2012, one of my mates, Mike Kappeli and I will embark on a 23,000 mile drive/excursion from New York to Cape Horn. We're using vehicle mounted cameras inside and out to capture the journey across 15 countries. We'll be helping the local and indigenous people in each country that we travel through. The goal of this trip is not only get hands on and help those that we can, but also to frame & develop our next social entrepreneurial venture based on the needs we witness first hand. Another gentleman whose words will forever resonate in my being, “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do..." ~ Steve Jobs.
@William Kawai Sham
Wish you success on your next social entrepreneurial venture!
@Thomas Carter
I have developed a disruptive way to fund vetted earlystage high growth companies. A true end to end solution to help entrepreneurs better access capital markets. www.capitalwindow.com has helped over 200 companies and has created a standardization of private company information that will transform the way entrepreneurs and companies position themselves for the capital markets.
@Matt Lawson
Do you have experience raising $10+ million?
@Scotty Scheper
I would advise that if they want flying cars and not 140 characters, they stop investing in companies called Bubble Fusion Labs who create twitter products named 140 Proof.

A better way to invest your money may be in lending money to credit-worthy borrowers to get 9.6% return. http://tiny.cc/a5ro2
@Sheel Mohnot
Umm Founders Funded companies like Genentech? Are you kidding? Genentech has been around longer than many of the Founders Fund guys have been alive, was a public company for the past decade before being swallowed into Roche. Fact-checking is really a lost-art in the 20 minute article-cycles.
@Alexia Tsotsis
Yeah sorry, that was lazy and my bad. Fixed.

What are the general terms for this fund? What are some of the before and after stories with valuation and how the founders were treated at different time periods. --- So we created something that has taken 2+ years to develop (3 versions, hundreds of customer feed back feature edits and 50+ bugs remaining) with a personal cash investment of $500k and we are already cash flow positive in private-beta. When people look at our software features, financials/banking records and how we manage developers/customers they are thrilled and often say "this is change the world stuff here". My 2012 goal is to complete 1 million development hours. So how do we get to be part of this fund?
@Saad Zaeem
Please use YouTube; it has a better video player.
@Ryan Dulina
I am looking for a developer and possible investors to build a online video classified showroom using either: YouCanViewIt.com or viewAvideo.com. any thoughts? comments? mesg me please, This will be BIG! Believe it! thank you -Ryan Dulina
@Emmanuel Ruggiero
yea, good luck with that! Everybody's trying to find developers. If you don't have some money to offer, then they will not come. If you don't have a site, investors won't come either. Officially you can get finances with just an idea, in practice you need to either have your product ready for review or if you just have an idea, you need to have been doing something impressive in the past (in that case investors are investing in your potential to develop the idea more than the idea itself...) I've been trying to create something myself and it took me 4 months to understand that nobody will work with me without getting paid (even when giving away 40% of my company to the developer and coder). It's hard to create something without resources, I had to go to my native country (France) to finally find ppl willing to do it and but they were friends so it was easier to convince them! Honestly, try your best, but there's a lot of work ahead of you. Hope this helps
@Mutimba Mazwi
Are they investing here in Africa?
@Azrul Rahim
Learn how to take proper interview video. It isn't that hard! Now I have to look at 1/2 a dude talking in front of shiny reflecting glass panel!
@Tom Benson
I see these guys as part of the trend that includes SpaceX, Willow Garage, Bill Gate's nuclear reactor, etc etc, this trend of successful high-tech people focusing their resources towards extremely unconventional, but huge concepts that could change the fate of the planet. What an amazing time we live in. I feel lucky to be able to witness it.
@Felix Mak
is alexia always this nervous during interviews? and does she always talk about penises?
@Alexia Tsotsis
No, and no.
@Akhsar Kharebov
Good to hear that founders fund invests in world changing ideas vs. the hype. I think there was a very relevant post about this on Techcrucn a year ago. It was about how SV has a choice to either focus on: near term hype companies or continue to go after big problems that change the world for ever. (i prefer the later).
@Benjamin Watanabe
People not "consider(ing) the long-term prospects for the business" has to do with a general misconception of the purpose of the VC by many startups. Anticipation of receiving outside funding has become an anticipation of an end, not a means.
