I thought they smelled bad... On the outside.

Man, a lightsaber would be toooootally awesome for zombie survival.

Though, I've always wondered, do lightsabers have a finite power source?

But parsecs measure distance, not time!

See you next mile.
corpore-metal @Hououin Kyouma
Thank you! My eye twitched over that one too!
GeneralBattuta @corpore-metal
You guys are...both really missing the joke.
Dr. Clockwork @GeneralBattuta
We're not missing the joke. It's that we know what a parsec is, unlike the person who made the poster.

So instead of being funny it just looks unintelligent.

(Also before people come in saying, "But Han Solo says, 'It made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs'" it has already been made clear that Han is referring to the shorter route on the Kessel Run that he was able to travel by skirting the nearby black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance. Thanks, Wookieepedia!)

GeneralBattuta @Dr. Clockwork
You're missing the joke - the person who made that poster knows what a parsec is and what it measures, just like the rest of us. The joke is that George Lucas didn't; the retcon you found on Wookiepedia was just that, a retcon. Lucas used parsec as a unit of time because he didn't know any better, and this joke riffs on that mistake.
Dexomega @Dr. Clockwork
Clear? No, that wasn't the original reason. They rectified the canon later on, which resulted in the explanation you hear now.
Dr. Clockwork @GeneralBattuta
Or rather you assume that they are riffing on the mistake. You can't tell if they are riffing on Lucas's error or if they actually don't know what a parsec is without talking to the person who made it.

I think it's safe to assume that someone interested enough in Star Wars and in design to make this specific poster, replacing a unit of time with a unit of distance erroneously used as a unit of time in Star Wars, is quite aware of this common bit of Star Wars trivia.
Dr. Clockwork @GeneralBattuta
I don't think it's safe to assume anything.

Ever. XD

I've made multiple Mega Man posters that mirror old Soviet propaganda and I'm not the most avid fan in the world. I've only played and beaten Mega Man through Mega Man 6, so I'm hardly a buff on the subject. Just because I made posters of them in a certain style doesn't make me any sort of authority on the Mega Man series of games or Soviet history.

Just because Magritte painted Ceci n'est pas une pipe doesn't mean that he knew everything there was to know about pipes. The only way to get any information about it would be to ask: the only thing you can assume from the painting is he knew what a pipe was.

As such, I think the only safe assumption that you can draw from the poster is that the artist knows that a person in Star Wars says, "It made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs" and that there's a zombie movie called 28 Days Later. Any further assumptions are only based on other assumptions and, as a result, don't really mean anything.

I got the joke plenty fine. The joke is based on the original error in the movie where Solo uses the unit in a way that makes it sound like measurement of time instead of distance. I dig.

My 13 year old eye twitched at it then. It still twitches now. It twitches because it loves. Let it twitch, cool?

While I'd love to say 'Shall we agree to disagree?', there's no reason for that. You are getting dangerously close to the 'Troll' level of commenting. We all know that this entire picture is a joke. Much like all of these pictures are jokes. There are no assumptions. Did you think that the first picture linked on this page, for whatever reason, was meant to be serious, and the guy made what is obviously a nerd-referencial joke (because everyone above 25 knows GL was wrong and it was all retconned, albeit well, but still retconned) and didn't realize it, but every other picture was meant as a joke?

Please, drop the subject. And also, drop all of your hobbies, if they include making homage posters to something you, yourself, said you don't really care about. Thanks!
Dr. Clockwork @LordChristo
Direct me to where I said that I don't care about Mega Man. I merely said I wasn't an authority on the subject: that doesn't mean I don't care. Please don't put words in my mouth (or text in my comment box). Also, I'd appreciate it if you didn't attack how I spend my own time. I haven't said anything inflammatory towards you or GeneralBattuta. =(

I'm not saying the poster is not meant to be a joke. What I'm saying is that without talking to the guy who made the poster, you can only assume that he's in on the whole parsec thing. Also, I wouldn't say that everyone about 25 is in on the whole parsec thing but that's neither here nor there...I don't want to start another argument. v.v

And this whole thing sort of spiraled out of control, since I was originally just trying to back up corpore-metal up there: I wasn't meaning to get into a heated argument. =(

GeneralBattuta @Dr. Clockwork
Yeah I agree this is getting a bit heated for a debate about the intent of a joke poster about Star Wars.
Dr. Clockwork @GeneralBattuta
Agreed. Thanks, General. -Salutes- =]

After reading through everything again, I can see how it looks like it's getting heated, and I'd like to apologize for fanning any flames. I just love 28 Days Later, and parsecs, so damned much! Let us all join together and make fun of Transformers 3! That's still a legitimate target, right? Hooray!
Dr. Clockwork @LordChristo
Indeed! Hooray! XD

Soviet propaganda megaman? Why are we learning about this on the comments section instead of it being featured.
systemcomic @Dr. Clockwork
Actually, I made the poster. And I know what a parsec is. It's a movie mash-up, a movie title portmanteau if you will, and it was a way of tying the two together. Maybe he takes a trip that's 28 parsecs long? Besides, it's Star Wars and zombies. Can we really start picking apart the semantics? Because then we'll have to talk about how lightsabers work.

Some interesting concepts, but nothing I would want to hang on the wall. Give me something like The Usual Bounty Hunters, or Padme and Jar-Jars High School Reunion. Something utterly bizzare...

legion @01SNKOWNR
Ben Kenobi - the Alec Guinness one, of course! With Moff Tarkin (or Count Dookoo - they're kinda interchangeable) as the douchey dad that wants to send Ted off to military school. Now, the two princess babes, that's a little trickier...

I am becoming ashamed of how easy this is to do...
