I do not think(lest you are sarcastic) that craving for a gadget can kill someone. Hype machine at its best!

Bwana Kizito My iPhone 4 got stolen. I bought a LG Android which died in 3 months so I've been running around with a basic cell phone for most of the year. Also I develop iPhone apps for other clients so I've been using my iPad, so no sarcasm intended.

Sean Blanchfield On the development front; well, your ideas now corroborate. Being on a dumbphone isn't that much of a problem for a coupla'months! You should visit us (in Tanzania) to get a gist of how dumbphones are actually very smart.

"His passion alone drove sales"? Really? Not the product itself at least a little bit?

I think this was worded poorly. I doubt he was saying that his passion drove *all* sales. But it certainly had an effect.

How many normal people watch SJ's keynotes, really? The story of the "Apple Loyalist" who buys no matter what is getting a bit tired.

Benoit Maison Actually, hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of people watched each and every SJ keynote - and they were generally covered by all the news stations the evening of a keynote.

"Apple’s future likely hinges more on his on-stage presence than just a piece of hardware." What utter nonsense. I never watch the SJ presentations as I've never been a fan of his style. But I have a house full of apple products (as do both of my kids who could give a crap about Steve). It's all about the products. If I upgrade to a 5 it will be exclusively because the product offers advances I want. The most important of which would be battery life.

I agree it's a little over stated but you have to admit many people buy Apple products because they are considered cool. This coolness in part comes from Steve's sales pitch and the marketing he has helped Apple develop (not saying he hasn't created a good product too). So even if people don't watch a keynote or pay little attention to him they are still indirectly influenced by him. This is what I think Matt is trying to point out.

A slimmer-thinner-and surely, a better iPhone 5 is ready to people go crazy and would help Apple Inc.to remain at No.1 position in smartphones sales across the globe!

iPhone 5 will be released Oct 15th. Here is why: For the last two years, Apple released the iPhone two weeks after the official announcement. I.E) WWDC 2010 was June 7th, and iPhone 4 release date was June 24th. WWDC 2009 was June 6th, and the iPhone 3Gs was released June 19th. This year is Oct 4th, which means the release date has to be Oct 15th - 17th! Less than 4 weeks left!

Tim Cook's performance could certainly affect the stock price on the 4th... but regardless the innovation that Jobs brought to the table will linger with the company and products for years to come. He probably had his hands dirty in the iPhone 6 before he stepped down.

I still have the iPhone 3CS. I switched to the Infuse 4G a few weeks ago. I had serious thoughts about going back to my iPhone, but the more I use the infuse 4G, the more I liked it. Adobe Flash! I love it. Apple is lagging behind in technology, and I don’t think they will be able to catch up.

"Apple’s future likely hinges more on his on-stage presence than just a piece of hardware." Yeah, because the millions of people buying iPhones make their decision based on the CEO's presentation.

Since it's iphone no. 5, it will be harder to "make the most mundane feel life-changing" even if Jobs was doing it. However, I'm looking forward to it as it might be the iphone I finally buy.

It is unlike Apple to release version 5 on 4th. Remember ipad 2 release happened on 2nd March. which was also a wednesday just like 5th October.
