If Sprint changes everyone from unlimited to something else mid-contract, wouldn't that be grounds for terminating the contract without having to pay an ETF because of a "material change" to it?

Sounds sane to me. After being told by Bell Canada that they do not "provide that service" when I wanted to unlock my phone, ( paid for outright ) I will never give them a penny of business in the future. Worst possible PR letting your customers ( or potential customers ) know the only way you can compete is by holding them hostage.

Spirit wants u to purchase the iPhone with credit card only no cash what so every , at&t here I come I have saving way to long , cash that is , to have a carrier come between my goal of obtaining the iPhone.

does anyone know whether the Verizon version will have a MicroSIM card slot? -- if it doesn't, how does a traveler take advantage of it being unlocked?

It doesn't have AWS bands so T-Mobile is clearly not an option.
