I give it 3 years before all PC laptops have touch and have detachable screens.

I'm waiting for them to do bluetooth connectable monitors for an iphone. You set your iphone down, the monitor connects and then you have the power of a desktop only your computer is your iphone. That way your computer is always with you, but your not forced to use the small screen and touch keyboard.

I'm suprised Gartner is underestimating Windows 8, all pc laptops well be tablets also!

I am currently using Windows 8 developer preview and from what it seems, MS will be back in the tablet game. I expect by the end of 2012, Windows 8 tablets will be a tough competition for iPad and since they can run existing windows applications, they will definitely have an edge.

I have to say, the RT's on Twitter are awesome. Also news: "water is wet," "sky is blue," and Facebook will be top social network!

Should say iOS not iPad. iPad will still be #1 tablet in 2014 but iOS probably won't be the #1 OS.

So in a few months RIM is going to sell 3million QNX tablets? Who did the math on that one? They've shipped what...500k?

I do accept that Gartner does research and says iPad will be top, but I cannot accept why you are happy with this report. You are the media, aren't you? You have to be balanced, haven't you?

HP fired the CEO yesterday. Let's see if they get back into the hardware and tablet business again. I like WebOS, but plenty of good things had been wasted before.

A shortcoming of these predictions is the fact that there is no way to accurately account for products that have not yet been released. With the rate at which the tablet market is growing, OEMs will continue to work to introduce devices to battle the iPad – leading to continued market fragmentation. As these new devices are introduced, companies will need to be prepared to make their offerings available on them to ensure they’re maximizing their potential. One way to easily accomplish this is to implement a single application definition, which allows companies to create and update their offerings across numerous devices and channels at once without sacrificing any device’s powerful native capabilities. This technology allows companies to relax, knowing that their offering will be safe no matter how the market plays out.

I know they are wrong now, but in 2014 everybody will know it too. Windows 8 and Android will be big, because they have lots of Microsoft and google services behind them, the ipad can be their equal but not their superior.
