So, odd question...

I'm looking for an Airplay speaker that would be suitable for a bathroom. I'm not going to dunk it in water, but it would obviously have to be moisture proof. Are there any Airplay speakers on the market that would be suitably resistant?

Um buy an airport express and some good PC speakers. It cost me under a hundred to buy both. Works awesome.

When i(get)Home, I don't want to open the iFridge to have a iGlass of iMilk. iNstead, I want to enter myHome, open myFridge and have a huge (just love milk) glass of myMilk. And, ofcourse, listen to myMusic, whether i bought it at AnyWebStore, iTunes, Amazon or downloaded my friend's home made mega hit. iLove music. Any music.

Comparing this to Sonos isn't relevant at all. Sonos provides a completely independent wireless solution that you simply control with a phone app, it doesn't depend on an external device to stream the music to it.

It's relevant. It's an alternative.

Sidenote: It's also capable of supporting AirPlay.

I'm still waiting for an AirPlay speaker set from Audioengine.  I love my A5s, but would love to have a couple of sets of A5s with AirPlay around the house.

FYI, the latency issue is inherent to AirPlay (previously AirTunes), and affects all devices that use the service.  It happens on the iPhone when you try to beam to an Airport Express, or a PC running the Shairport emulation software.

It isn't the hardware's fault.  It's the protocol.

Yup, and we made sure to make that clear by saying "AirPlay is occasionally buggy."

This seems overly complicated to setup. Seems like the easiest and foolproof way to AirPlay is still an Airport express + your choice of speaker.

This thing has got to be the most bungled product launch in recent memory. I've wanted one of these things for well more than a year. Then, when they FINALLY release the thing recently, it was out of stock in 15 minutes and has been listed as such for the better part of a month on the iHome Audio website.

How hard was it to put the danged thing into a production a year ago if it was all designed? And if you did make some, maybe more than 300 of them next time? I put off a dock purchase for months waiting for this, and now I'm half tempted to go with competing product just for the principal of the matter.

Dear iHome Audio:
Please do not announce products more than a year before their release. It's annoying.

Sincerely,
Jason

You should also write to Apple as well...considering there are still NO CONSUMER TB devices on the market at all.

Here's one: http://store.apple.com/us/prod...

But still pretty pricey and doesn't ship for 4-6 weeks . . . so I take your point.

Um, I am sorry for the inconvenience, but in addition to that product not being a single 1TB device (it is 2* 500GB devices) it is what some my call: A Complete Rip Off, for 400$, i could bump my PC with about 5TB.

I agree it's over priced . . . but you're not paying just for the storage, you're paying for the data transfer speed.

Would you even want a 5TB disk drive if it had USB 1.0 speeds?  Someday, that comparison might make a lot of sense.

I'm sorry... in what country is $300 a "low-ish" price of adoption?

If you've got anything that takes an optical or HDMI input for your audio $99 will buy you an appleTV and you're done. I agree that $300 is way overkill.

Don't get pissy. $300 for a single speaker is anything but cheap.

AirPlay has changed my life, and I love it to death, but if I'm spending $300 on a single speaker, it'd better have the letters B&O on it.

No one's getting pissy here. In terms of AirPlay, this is a low cost of adoption. How is this hard to fathom?

$300 for the one spealer is not low cost solution in any terms. Even with Apple magic.

....and by B&O, I meant B&W.

$99 will get you an Apple TV / Airport Express, with $200 to spend on powered speakers from M-Audio or the like. That was my preferred method for making multi-room audio more than a pipe dream.

Until your Apple TV/Airport Express option works without needing to be plugged into a wall, it's not quite comparing apples to apples. And you can't stream iPhone/iPad -> Airport Express (you can stream iPhone/iPad -> AppleTV, but that also requires a separate TV which isn't exactly free or portable).

There's a few things that confuse me about these speaker sets.

I know they want to support airplay, and airplay in my experience is pretty awesome. However the premium charged is a bit much considering you can buy any bluetooth audio adapter, pair it to a mac, and you have the same thing. (it even runs through the airplay interface etc.

That opens me up to buying anything, shoving a cheap adapter on it and having different wireless zones syncing or playing different music depending on the setup.

Well it cant sound any worse. Sonos make an awesome product, but their S3 and S5 devices sound decidedly rubbish. They have very poor bass reproduction and decidedly iffy midrange. That said Sonos beats airplay hands down.
