They can't be considered a mobile company yet, given how much and how often the FB mobile app freezes and crashes.

Whatever you do for the mobile, Facebook, I implore you; Do not make the option default selected to load all friends' numbers into the phone or stuffing the calendar with every friends' birthday. Stop it.

$1000 says they come out with a Facebook phone. They own the social network. The phone is the place for it to be. Plug in Facebook credits and you have a good shot at knocking Apple off the post.

@ Matt Barrie. I would pay $1000 per year to not have to use phone numbers. I fully support the facebook phone...

I use MyPad+ (no relation to them at all). It works reasonably well for me. I would like an officially supported app, but it's ok.

Dude Facebook is going to become a CLOUD company. Like all other software firms out there - hosting data / functionality on a remote server 'n allowing you to access it through different means is where it's at. They're only saying mobile because of the way that smart phones are becoming popular. When a new technology comes along (Internet TV) then they'll be on the TV too.

I've worked deep inside some key players of the mobile phone industry for most of last decade. So my question to FB would be, why get into the crowded space of cellphone hardware? There are already many, many players in this field, with extensive working background. I hope they mean to only partner with them vs develop something ground up. I've not seen the NPV analysis but my guess is they want to use the FB platform to:
- Enter the mobile payment business (Google's NFC payments).
- Have such payments made on products/services offered on FB (+location based). This puts them in the Groupon business too.
It will be scary at that point since they'd control the customers, the vendors AND the payments themselves.

They're an everything company, just like any other that develops for multiple devices. If they stopped developing for the desktop and only focused on mobile, then they would be a mobile company. Until then they aren't one.

Facebook's apps for iPhone, WP7 and Android suck, I'd be incredibly wary of installing an OS they create. It's clunky, derails and is unintuitive.

Maybe they will follow the Netflix way of thinking...Seperate the Mobile part of the business and we'll have to have 2 accounts, 2 updates, 2 friend lists :)

most 3rd party iPad FB apps are just OK...(except for a few like SliceBook) so will be good to see an official version from the source...

They are just copying the idea of the Spanish Facebook Tuinti.com. Tuinti has been bought by Telefonica and now provide mobile services through a prepaid simcard called Tu.

Not impressed! They will have Facebook on mobile devices? Or their own mobile device? Big deal. Call me when they start making dishwashers and bicycles.
