Should TechCrunch REALLY be promoting Pirated material? Sure the show was great and it's available on the BBC iPlayer for those in the UK and BBC iPlayer Worldwide has opened up too and I imagine it's on there; however I am questioning the editorial integrity behind actively promoting pirated material without a care in the world... or is this what TechCrunch is now about? Riding off the back of others material for cheap hits. Making publicly available, through forms of linking, copyrighted material without the expressed consent of the holder is illegal under UK law. Do TechCrunch and AOL really want to piss the BBC off that much? - Come on guys, this is cheap blogging crap under designed to get quick hits. Get a grip, get reporting real news and perhaps make a decent documentary on Facebook yourselves... you've got the video talent, in the UK at least, use it.

This was just the BBC Facebook pre-IPO infomercial. There will be many more in the run-up to IPO. All just as 'impartial' as presented by this reporter who just happens to be....
Sad how the BBC has been hijacked by 'vested interests' who have no loyalty to their birthplace.
Worse still how the US Tech media has been hijacked by religious nepotism.

Fuck it. I'm already in enough trouble with Erick as it is... but how can you encourage people to watch copyrighted content illegally on this post, yet warn your readers (and encourage them NOT to do it) that using H1Siri is illegal because it uses copyrighted code? - http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/05/dont-do-it-new-siri-port-h1siri-is-illegal-breaks-your-iphone/

Question: Why do you feel as though you can tell your readers to watch copyrighted content illegally, and provide them with a direct source, in one post; but warn your users against using a hack that infringes Apple's copyright in another? Who's in charge of editorial compliance here?

Chris you really used the phrase "editorial integrity behind actively promoting pirated material without a care".........ever used youtube? Are you really that stupid? Ever see all the pirated material on youtube? I mean, really, that statement is either ignorant, stupid, or both. And what's wrong with pissing off the BBC? Those fucks have no "integrity", even less than the media in the US, if that's possible.

The BBC is fine, they do excellent broadcasting work the majority of the time. The main issue is with how our universe's copyright works.

A trail of the programme featured above would have been an acceptable form of promotion.

When The Social Network was released, I never remember seeing a full-length, HD rip of the movie posted to this website - a trailer: http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/15/facebook-movie-trailer/ was actually.

I can, however, understand the quandary of this situation - with the absence of a global BBC iPlayer it feels like the only way of seeing the above content is via unauthorised uploads.

Mark is a good coder but when it comes to speaking about the business side of Facebook or anything really, he seems clueless. I think I rather hear from the twins that came up with the idea for Facebook about the business side of it.

Actually no it is not the same thing. I can spend time on a website because it is hard to use and understand... I can spend time on a website because it is fun and entertaining.

Huh? Why are you going to spend time if its hard to use?

"We are trying to make it so that the time that you spend on Facebook is so valuable that you want to come back every day."

It is one of those mind boggling and head scratching statements from facebook. It is the same them saying "Facebook leads privacy innovation"

I think what he meant was: we don't want people spending more time per session (the previous point had been about how Facebook has very long session times compared to, say, a google search, therefore providing more value to advertisers). But they do want more frequent sessions.
