Walking Dead and Breaking Bad: 1995 Style

Walking Dead and Breaking Bad: 1995 Style
TexasGuy.
This video makes me feel old when I realize 1995 is now retro.

SinHasFlesh.
Ya I am going to say it...Breaking Bad is a way better show than The Walking Dead

mihocik.
I don't think this is even a matter of debate.

Absolutfreak.
I love The Walking Dead, and haven't missed an episode. It still pales in comparison to the writing of Breaking Bad. They shouldn't feel bad though, pretty much every other show ever made does too.

Xenocide1993.
so brave

rolfmikkel.
I am a big fan of both. but i'll have to agree with you breaking bad is just fantastic. altough comparing these to would be a little ackward. but overall breaking bad is better than TWD and the best tv show Now a days !

rifleshoot.
yes, but sons of anarchy is better than breaking bad.

Leewan.
I like breaking bad better too but I didn't really know there was a huge discussion about this. Walking Dead isn't the favorite show of most people who watch it, its just different

twg23.
That Breaking Bad one is amazing!

marco_39120.
Ah come on!! The 90's didn't look that bad...did it?

arkarian.
ohhhh yes.

Shaanyboi.
More ponytails and high-rise jeans. So no, it looked worse.

Boogachoog09.
Search "Breaking Bad is Now on ABC" and prepare to lol.

IxWoodStockxI.
This reminds me of Walker Texas Ranger LOL

Aaron Grince.
That was one of the funniest things I've seen in a LONG time. They should open with that for at least one episode. Or maybe include it on the DVD release as an extra.

arkarian.
they don't have the rights to it.

woosh6.
AHAHAHA soooo true! The walking dead reminded me of the TV movie The Stand for some reason. I'm trying to figure out what show BB reminded me of... I'll get back to you

DC3893.
Because of this article, I'm probably going to watch The X-Files all day now. Which is completely okay.

CynicalBlackGuy.
This was awesome .. lol 90's baby!

BolognaSandvich.
YEAH BITCH!

WanderinRaider.
I think they screwed up. These trailers feel more 1980's than 1990's.

Lethargic68.
Cheap 90s syndicated shows DID seem like they were from the 80s.

systemzombie.
Way to catch up with everyone else, IGN.

EricGoldman-IGN.
Thanks!

Andrew5678.
I found Comics and Sports to be more entertaining back in 1995. The shitty thing was that the American dollar was stronger then Canada's. The Canucks sucked and there still was the Vancouver Grizzlies and Seattle Supersonics!! Jackie Chan was badass and we just got over Hardboiled back in Hong Kong!! So the action was great. And we saw the end of grunge music and the dawn of Nu Metal with Korn!

metalmaster316.
Oh god the breaking bad one is hilarious

deoduceassassin.
Man this seems so dated. I was born in 89 but remember the shows from watching tv throughout the 90s, especially the reruns from 95-2000. This totally nails how these shows would have been pitched. It's amazing how long ago the 90s were. I miss it when technology was just starting to break through, things were much simpler.

PeopleAreSoStupid.
No, times used to be more complex. There's nothing simpler than modern times, where everyone has a cell phone that'll make pancakes and rub their balls. And technology was NOT "just starting to break through" in the 90s. This is typical myopic modernist thinking. Nothing that has been developed in recent times has been a historically significant invention. Not the iphone 983498439834, not the super-duper-98438934 X 943989843 resolution televisions, not any of the reinvented wheels. The 21st century is an abomination. An utter cultural wasteland. It's the most miserable time there ever was.

belb0i.
Really liked the Walking dead opening. Brings back memories

mikhailv07.
Oh how I miss shane in TWD. best character of the show ahead of Merle.

RocomSocom.
The Breaking Bad one is hilarious, oh 90s where'd you go.

jonjonjonj.
did this really deserve an article? they put a song over happy scenes from the shows. amazing.

Jason_Casey_Art.
This looks far more like a 1985 show then 1995. (Breaking Bad)

Reagan2791.
Wow. Those are so good! Reminded me a lot of several shows I used to watch growing up in the 90s.

BladetheVampire.
Its just sad today's generation doesn't know what Ren and Stimpy and Are You Afraid of the Dark are.

mbreezy23.
Youngins leaving comments like "Do i need glasses for the 3D to work?"

dantenano11.
i saw breaking bad and i thought it was a trailer.. my hopes are shattered

Jormungard.
I don't know why but the Walking Dead one gives me a Highlander tv show vibe..

BROOKLYNRAGE.
And it appears we have our winner for every Internet award in existence.

APG1.
One white lie... yeah bitch!

hot_socks.
Hahaha, dude did a good job.

mosannam9696.
These are absolutely great.

Majorforgetful.
No offense to the 90's, (I was born and loved the 90's) but The Walking Dead just wouldn't have been as cool haha

bigspleenattack.
Breaking bad makes the walking dead look like a bad soap opera, too bad these shows are on the same station and TWD has all the immature morons as fans.

PHENOM59.
What are you getting at? You wish it didn't exist?....uuuuhhhh don't watch it then.

bjiscool45.
#90s sucked dick, all that was around was like Super Mario World

Pantzer_Fusion.
you either weren't born then, or you had a really bad time. Sucks to suck.

UI_Zeus.
Metal Gear Solid 1, yeah, 90's

Cartman2057.
No the world didn't got shit until sometime in September 2001 or November 2000. Everything since then has sucked dick.

WanderinRaider.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air

TeeZe.
The 90's was a period of non-excessive hashtags. I miss those days.

ChrisSousa89.
That music wouldn't suit Walking Dead even back then, you wouldn't evne know it was about zombies lol

Lethargic68.
Way to get the joke.

dryadsrain.
yea the way they did it seemed more like the 80s

MasteroChieftan.
Wow. The style in 1995 was AWFUL lol Seriously. But think about it, in another 20 years they're going to have some radically different way of expressing art in tech and style, and the trailers for things like Clash of the Titans or G.I. Joe Retaliation are going to look cheesy as hell.

DonovanMcStabb.
Fail.

Goreamir.
Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of this zombie fixation sweeping the world yet? yeah I know, probably just me. I watched a trailer for World War Z, not knowing what it was about, and I thought I was just seeing hordes of people trying to escape something by climbing over each other, turns out they were zombies, boner gone. Now I'm much less excited about the white walker storyline in Game of Thrones because it feels like another zombie invasion story. Gah! If Dany's dragons get to burn their asses up later in the series it will be exciting though. I haven't read the books, so I don't want to know.

Revan-bh.
You shouldn't worry. White walkers hardly appear. It's the Wars of the Roses set in low fantasy setting.

Jaudrop.
GAK, Attack Packs, Biker Mice from Mars, Mighty Max... Anyone?! NINETEEN NINETY FIVE WHERE HAVE YOU GONE?!

Primo115.
biker mice from mars!!! man i wish i was a kid when that was on sounds sweeeeet

PeopleAreSoStupid.
Is the implication here supposed to be that 90s television was VHS quality? Are people really this stupid? I'm honestly starting to think kids these days think converted 15-20-year-old VHS uploads on Youtube are what the actual broadcasts looked like. It's absolutely hilarious. Apparently they have no idea that VHS was always a consumer-level product, not a professional tape. Betacam SP, which was the standard in the industry for 10+ years and continues to be used at many TV stations to this day, was the standard dating back to the 80s. Before Betacam was developed, Umatic (3/4 inch) tapes were the weapon of choice for TV networks. They also somehow don't seem to realize that tapes degrade as they age (especially the cheap brands), and they usually have faulty color because they recorded the NTSC signals as they were received (with phase errors), as opposed to with the corrections through the tint controls on television sets...so when they're viewed on modern equipment that isn't set to properly correct the color, it's off, just as the uncorrected signal was. I thought this was just obvious stuff, but people are mind-numbingly stupid.

xSEINFELDx.
cool cool

NapalmThunder.
Great. Now make a 1990's show look like it was shot in 2013. Love to see 2013's X-Files!

Marc Nix.
It is crazy how much media has changed and yet we only think of the '80s as "old". I was rewatching American Gothic a while ago and I remember it as this breakthrough, unlike-anything-on-TV show (granted X-Files was around the same time) with slick direction and with acting oriented towards serialized drama rather than case-of-the-week resets, yet I watch it now and it looks so dated. Still worth checking out, but time has changed TV in a big way since say Sopranos on.

benjaminjkelly.
"one white liiii-iiiiee" I miss that olde theme song....

kjevon.
Malcolm in the MIddle was the prequel to Breaking Bad. Dewey, Reese, and Malcolm all caused him to go broke and start his meth business.

MrVercettti.
Times Really ave changed, TV Shos now hardly have music or title screens, It's just the shows name after the cold opening and that's it. SVU, CSI, Grimm and Docto Wno (it embellishes its opening as a part of the shows legacy) they are Realy the only shows that have music after the cold opening.

MJP12.
every sitcom on today still has an opening song. The Walking dead has an opening title with music in it. There are plenty of shows that still use an opening title and song

Ruben2832414.
I was a junior in high school during that year. I remember many HIT drama tv shows that I was watching back then, but the tone was set different than these I just watched. As far as dramas go I remember: Hercules, xena, the flash (short lived), Baywatch, Lois and clark, Star trek DS9, star trek voyager, renegade, and highlander. These are reimagined as family shows from the 90's. The Walking dead is not a family show, and neither is Breaking Bad.

MarzXx.
LOL so true, it would be exactly like that.

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
i gotta say the breaking bad one reminds me of rosanne an the walking dead reminds me of an 80s chuck norris film

helloyou05.
that was too good

crippen.
haha lol very retro

GreenEgo.
i dont thinl

rolfmikkel.
The moment you realise that every body is talking about kids these days instead of these to genius opening credits remakes ! nice job :)

tricker37.
I hate who ever did this, just made me feel old

vk3yblad3v.
The Breaking Bad one was hilarious!

Terry Majamäki.
those are more along the lines 1985 style then 1995.

Slayer_of_IGNorance.

j0evsyou.

How do you get paid to post this utter shit?

PHENOM59.
How do you get paid to comment on it? Oh shit, you don't.. I guess shut up then.

ma007phd01.
Vinyl isn't digitally sampled so it's 1:1 without losing data. It's making a comeback and so is tape because of this. And with 3D printers you'll be able to "print" a vinyl if you want. You can go on amazon and find most of the latest albums on Vinyl. This is one reason why the Foo Fighters latest album was recorded on tape, not pitch corrected and sampled in Pro Tools.

ksauce.
I remember singled out on Mtv and Beavis and butthead before Daria had her own show. To some of you this was complete jibberish.

this feels more like 92 than 95, the early 90s felt a lot more like the 80s. I had better picture in 95 too than this, even though resolutions hadn't changed much, I could always tell a big difference between Silver Spoons and friends

Lambo11_playstation.
From the breaking bad song I can see a lot of parents tuning in thinking it's a family show only to see a middle age man cooking crystal meth

mattrulez124.
too funny

Shaanyboi.
Wow. Era appropriate.

LiquidFreeman34.
Hard to its been 18 yrs since 1995. That makes me feel really old.

sarcanicus.
watching the breaking bad one reminded me of seven heaven lol. this sure brings back memories.

Salvy35z.
Breaking Bad XD

Pinback_Sherman.
I like how they seem to have a 80's filter to the images.

hoytoy1219.
The memories

bad_opinion_guy.
They should add this to the show

BaloneyComa.
I would have like to seen TWD opening be like The Heat of The Night tv show

Bfoy.
ehhh, The Walking Dead one is better because that song is freaking awesome with that familiar 90s guitar, but the Breaking Bad one could have been from the 80s, and all he did was switch up the genres; not every 90s show was Seventh Heaven. Cable certainly has brought us much better TV (though Walking Dead's writing is nowhere near that of Breaking Bad's). On the other hand, I'll take 90s movies any day over today.

Guest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtZpo89mmJo Breaking Bad as a Sitcom.

kendawg2764.
Think of the difference between the first season of Law and Order SVU (in 1998) and today. Watching these reminded me of that.

TheKidDude.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtZpo89mmJo Seriously way better ^^^^^^^^

SinHasFlesh.
Watch in 240p for full effect.

BlackBeltNinja.
Haha, hilarious! Thank you! Really enjoyed this. Can't believe it's been 18 years. I'm getting old!

jonex757.
LMAO these are great!

Alartiz.
Good job dude!

tommybc.
Your goddamn right!

ZeroBahamut1285.
Times have changed so much in just 10 yea... I mean, 20 years. Seriously, it's been almost 20 years, wtf?

Bf4life.
I just find it shocking that my youngest brothers friends don't know what a Gameboy is! Or Rugrats! Or what the original Motorola Razor was! I'm only 20, and my 9 year old brother and his peers do not know of these!

Aaron Grince.
Maybe you should teach a class at a community center about retro tech. Those darn whippersnappers need some real education!

BloodMeridian.
OK, vital question, what's a whipper-snapper?

Spineshatter.
U must be a lolly gagger

AlexPKeaton72.
Or a procrastibator. Or a heathen.

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
Or a whelp

Bf4life.
The coolest name to call someone, ever.

thavleifrim.
its a snapper of whippers... It's pretty self explanatory really. (On a serious not the term comes from ye olde times where children would receive the cane as a punishment in school, a whipper snapper was a child who received the cane so frequently that it became a concern that the can may be snapped from hitting them to hard to get the message across)

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
im sure the whipper snapper was the name of the cane used as it made the snapping sound as it was used to tan someones hide whats worse is people not knowing what an iron maiden is even now most people will assume im on about the band an not what gave them their name

1wa3konwa5er.
As long as they know who Zelda and Mario are (stupid word correct told me to call Zelda Zelma, whoever the f*ck that is) they will be fine.

Leahmatters.
hopefully youtube not taken these down :( http://www.amazon.com/God-War-Ascension-Collectors-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SXCQ6/?tag=thnenedo-20

dponeil.
it's got electrolytes, 'cause that's what the body craves!

dr_badhat.
When I was a kid, I remember nirvana playing on popular rock stations and MTV. Now they're on the local classic rock station. In a few more years, my white stripes vinyls will be classic albums :(

Oakley34.
When I was a kid I remember when MTV (Music Television) actually played MUSIC! Nothing better in the early 90's than playing a top 100 video countdown all day. Then The Real World came out and started a downward spiral or crappy reality TV.

Windfish_Jr.
What's a T-V Channel? Is that on Netflix? Is it some new form of app?

bullistix.
MTV still has music channels, they're just now called MTV U, MTV Classic, MTV Jams, MTV Hits and I think I forgot another one... but if you want music all day, albeit 95% crappy music, they got channels for that

Rovias128.
But realistically, no one actually gets those channels. They just get plain old MTV if even that.

jonjonjonj.
i bet most people who have cable get them. comcast has them but you will never see them because they are buried with all the other garbage channels.

Inailedzelda.
Dial MTV, baby! I remember calling in to vote for Motley Crue and Warrant videos (lol). The Real World was okay when it was the only reality show on the channel, but then it got way out of control and ruined MTV like you said. The point where I've always thought that it really started to go downhill was in the mid-late 90s when they hired that d-bag Carson Daly and started clipping/shortening the videos.

jkeely123.
All I can remember music-wise was shit nineties pop bands like the Spice Girls and Westlife and Five etc. (Ireland has a pretty shitty taste in music overall)

nvega94.
Go cry about it

RatohnhakeTon.
You're still a kid. You're Butters.

Pinback_Sherman.
Aren't all of those characters kids? Why specifically Butters?

RatohnhakeTon.
Look at his display pic.

Pinback_Sherman.
Ha, ha. Der.

jamesbond2198.
White Stripes Classic, the future sucks

Inailedzelda.
I remember when Casey Casem's Top 40 radio countdown was full of songs by 80's hair metal bands (*smiles*)... and New Kids on the Block & Paula Abdul (*shudders*).

Mr_Vicious5150.
Haha you know what's funny? Me being a second/third grader listening to dr dre, snoop dogg, and 2pac blowing up west coast rap. Now I hear my old school station playing regulators by warren g

camnpat.
Many of those kids don't know what a typewriter is, or don't know that TV screens weren't always widescreen (or flat), or what a roll of film for a photographic camera is. Which is sad because knowing how we got here is a much needed and helpful perspective to have.

eefromr.
this kinda makes me wanna take a floppy disk and hand it to a teacher and say "my 10 page report is on that." just to see where it goes from there.

tooitchy.
whoa, can kids turn in their work on a digital storage device now days? I didn't exactly go through school without computers or anything, I mean I just graduated in '04, but I remember having to print all my shit out, which sucked, because at that point nobody even had printers anymore,.

nets0999.
I'm in Canada, in my town I found out a couple years ago right after I graduated that all the kids in middle school were getting laptops. They pay a fee and it belongs to them for the school year. Soon we won't even have teachers, just show up to school and look at the screen.

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
my brother got a laptop to keep a few years ago when he started secondary school to do things like homework an email it to the teachers save to say hes still got homework going from his first day which he aint touched i went through his email an he had other 500 just for english

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
lol that kinda makes me want to do the same but on vhs or better still betamax here you go sir my piano recital is on this

Bane625.
i am doing that, thank you

Glen201048.
We were all kids that knew little of the past at one point or another, its important to remember that.

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
careful most people dont know what the word photographic is might want to roll it around in crap an stomp on it an then burn it until the only thing thats left is instagram who knew id miss the 80's so much

arkarian.
oh my god! and when you were 9 you probably didn't know what punch-card computers or vinyl records were! that's how technology works - we improve it, and old stuff largely goes away. this isn't a good or bad thing. you have nostalgia for the game boy just like your parents have nostalgia for vinyl, but people nowadays don't need to know about these things. your brother's friends don't need to know what a game boy is unless they're interested in retro game technology (most people aren't). don't confuse your nostalgia and interests with important knowledge.

tooitchy.
wait, what? There is no improvement over vinyl records, CD's are NOT better than vinyl, digital is not better than vinyl, vinyl is still the only way to get perfect sounds. They may have largely went away from popular culture, but there are still many record stores that sell more actual records than CD's, and turntables are still being made. Although if you buy a really good record player like I have, that doesn't have a pre-amp built in, then you're forced to seek a receiver with phono inputs, which the majority no longer have. And then you gotta have speakers set up, etc. So I can kinda see why most people moved on from vinyl, but I'll always seek the vinyl version of any music I buy, there just isn't anything that beats the warm hiss when you drop the needle down, as it works its way toward the first track. Mmmmm, vinyl....

ZEMANATOR.
Yes. Vinyl is awesome. I'm not even old enough to have a lot of record but I prefer them to CDs and Digitally downloading stuff.

AATripura.
True vinyl is better but are gameboys better than 3DSes?

Inailedzelda.
Yeah, you're right about vinyl sounding the best, but a lot of people don't like the fact that vinyl is expensive and relatively high maintenance. I personally prefer CDs for at-home listening (their size makes them easy to store in CD wallets and they sound better than anything besides vinyl), and lossless digital for on-the-go (nothing beats digital's portability). I buy all of my music on CD (dirt cheap these days) and then rip it to Itunes for when I'm away from home. The one thing that I DO NOT miss, though, is cassette tapes!

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
a scratched record gives character aswell but a scratched cd just causes the music to stop i love vinyl an love my portable record player which used to be my old music teachers until he gave me it for my birthday when i was 16 best present ever

Rovias128.
Thank you! And when those 9-year-olds turn 20, I'm sure that they'll know what Gameboys, cassettes, and slide rules are... even if they're not that relevant anymore.

greasyfork.
(Gasp!) Gameboys...not...relevant?!?? We duel with pistols at dawn!

D3ADP0OL.
Just slap them in the face and scream REPTAR! They'll figure it out sooner or later.

KyserXv.
kill him........only solution.

MDG397.
Yeah, and maybe when they're twenty they'll be shocked that the kids don't know what a Nintendo DS is.

olivermunck.
It's nothing but iPhones and boobs. I mean i like boobs, but it's nothing but boobs, boobs everywhere!

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
yeah but boobs aint nothing unless you see your first pair on page 3 cause not that many mothers breast feed thats for sure an of course porn its not porn unless you found it in the woods torn an muddy an pages stuck together even now i can remember the very first porn mag i found in the woods but i cant even remember the last vid i watched online

broda8121.
I still use an original Razor if (when) my smartphone(s) break(s). A perfectly usable piece of technology, even today.

Thesamboyman.
im 13 and i still have my gameboy advance :)

mmel.
im 17 and i don't know what the original motorola razor was

GKage.
Ahh the razor. I remember when it was the undisputed coolest phone around. When rugrats was watched by child and adult alike. Good times good times. Now the cartoons are just retarded unless you like online for free anime to watch.

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
thats like me an my brothers not knowing what an atari is or wizball for that fact without googling it

Torquemada7.
Wait till your 25 man!

MarioORSonic.
I will tell you all this. The 21st century truly is a golden age in television in terms of quality, not commercial success. As a teenager, many of the comedies and dramas I watch today will always be in my memories as I grow up.

ThePsycold.
Airwolf, Robotech and Knight Rider like a mutha fucka.

AFXAcid37.
Right? We're getting old. :-(

TeeZe.
Man, I feel you guys. In 1995 I can remember getting pissed that Batman TAS was ending lol

TwistedDecayingFlesh.
an just how old are you then cause at 30 im ancient i can remember the big bang i was their i saw it with my own eyes lol

J_smash.
in my opinion, this one is far superior. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtZpo89mmJo

greasyfork.
I forgot about that video. Thanks for the reminder!

Killer_K1.
i still feel like im in 2002

Lovey0u.
Time feels like it's barely moving when you do nothing with your life

Barbacoazord.
I know, those 10 years keep getting lost on me as well. It's weird, I think the transition from the 19's to the 20's sort of had a weird transitional effect in contrast to the way it used to be the 60s, 70s, 80s etc.

TGiddy.
You're good at math

jval88.
You're bad at realizing people sometimes feel stuck in a certain time period.

ANGELSPAWN77.
I know, can't believe how fast time has flown. Freaking crazy, I'm getting old dammit!

RSTAR7824.
WORLDS GREATEST POST!

Frogjerky.
Tell me about it. I have to remind myself that watching Knightrider wasn't just a couple of years ago.

Dpride.
YEAH! 90's, BITCH! In this version of TWD, the studio audience laughs at everything Andrea says.

Amans91.
"Breaking Bad is filmed in front of a live studio audience."

DaZeppo37.
It is now. It's just so intense that no one says anything.

AlexPKeaton72.
I lost it when Walt had to get the pizza off his roof and the oozing bodies fell through the second floor of Jessie's house.

IHATESMURPHS.
Dissolved body parts falling through ceiling: "Uh-oh! We done it again!"

KIT-Man22.
LMAO. There`s no way you could turn that part in to a family show

Yes Perd Hapley

Dpride.
In this one, Gus is Walt's nutty neighbor.

El_Wray88.
No, he is just the manager at their favorite family restaurant that Walt goes to for advice that always ends badly. "Forgot an anniversary present again Walt? Here's what ya need to do..."

Dpride.
Actually, that's better!

TexasGuy.
It was hilarious seeing those scenes put in the different context.

tooitchy.
Body, singular, remember? Walt was too pussy to kill the one in the basement, and instead fed him peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the crust cut off.

Skulder.
My first thought was "Why no HD version?" Then it hit me. Poor 90's!

Dpride.
In 90's TWD, the studio audience laughs at everything Andrea says.

Wiingman17.
Breaking Bad one made it seem like a every day comedy lol

CheesyMacful.
Aaron Paul tweeted a link to a new breaking bad trailer. This was what we got.

Elzilla.
LOL at the song on the Breaking Bad opening

Absolutfreak.
There is no song in the universe that would have been more perfect for that video.
