Facebook Timeline - New FB Profile - Tour

Quickly Tag Photos With Locations, Assist Ad Targeting With Facebook’s New Timeline Map | TechCrunch
@George Adams
You know what would be great? One day without your crappy facebook "news".
@Julian Green
More great data for developers to build fun experiences for users. This seems to have been done with the requisite amount of sensitivity to privacy issues. If you want to see how much of the world your friends have traveled to, from photos they've shared with you, check it out at Jetpac.
@Jon McCord
I love how "assisting ad targeting" is the implied motive here. Oh TechCrunch... you think we're so evil. As someone who worked on the map from its inception, I assure you this is a false impression. We built the map because where you've been is a part of who you are, and expressing your identity is what Timeline is all about. Hope you guys enjoy :). We're all really excited to launch this.
@Vinoth
"Oh TechCrunch... you think we're so evil." - Yes, yes you are. Doesn't take a genius to realize how evil Facebook really is.
@Gleent Innovative Technologies
nice..
@Doug Pepper
I've already tagged about 50 pictures today with location information. Very easy to use and fun to see the map start to populate with pictures from around the world. Very powerful.
@Richard Bachner
Agreed. This is pretty fun and definitely helps you learn more about your friends. If some data about where you've been or what you've done is too sensitive, simply refrain from posting it and keep an eye on your privacy settings. Obviously, Facebook is going to use this data to serve you ads, and that's pretty much expected by people. But as long as this data isn't given away without regard to privacy settings, this should be fine. People have some misconceptions about Facebook privacy. Whether companies use Facebook Ads or one of the businesses reviewed at http://www.buyfacebookfansreviews.com to get more Facebook traffic, there is no way any advertiser is getting any personally identifying information about you from any ads. Facebook wants this data, they don't want to give it away. Monitor your privacy settings and don't be an idiot (I.E. post your phone number and other private data online) and you're fine. This is a serious topic, but because of how important Facebook is to our culture, you have a lot of misconceptions about what Facebook actually does with this data that I think detract from people being able to relax a bit.
@Robert Hammond
Seems that Facebook has been guessing where my photo's came from for a few weeks now; is this old news?
@Alessandro Bahgat
It has been available for a while to people who activated timeline earlier. Maybe some of your friends did that?
@Ayaz AJ
You Know What Now For The Next Few Weeks This Timeline Thing Will Be On Every Other Article And I Will Be Just Sick of It!
@Alessandro Bahgat
That's exactly what made me quit Foursquare checkins.
