This is the only comment I'm going to write - switch back to Disqus. This was an incredibly stupid decision. P.S. I made this account solely to comment on this idiotic decision. Not all of us use Big Blue, and there are others who don't want to link their personal Facebook account with pubic activity. Nice job TC - this decision is about as smart as Gawkers new website design.

You think it will result in more depth? I'm not so sure. People will hold back and be less willing to say something risky. You will probably end up with a lot of upbeat happy talk. Who wants that?

Yeah, but, it this isn't very useful. What would be useful to Page Admins, is if this commenting app would publish ALL comments to the associated FB Page. I have FB Pages for several blogs that I manage. I'd want ALL comments posting through the FB commenting tool to appear on both my blog AND my associated FB Page.

I dig this, it's breaking the barrier of plugging content on social channels. It allows the user to publish to Facebook, or not, (way better feature than Facebook making the decision for the user, like the new system with the "like" button in websites).
This feature creates a seless integration between the brands website content and their advocates social channels. Loyalty is a function that most companies want to establish with their brand advocates participation, this makes those people who are valuing their brand (& content) visible to both the company and that persons network, creating a broader word of mouth value for the company.
A good first version, this feature still has a ways to go, as the article illustrates.

This puts Disqus and the others out of business. It's also going to put a huge dent in blog-commenting. When comments to your blog get shared with friends or fans, that's huge -- much better than third-party apps. When the comments to those comments are shared, that's incredible.
I never much believed in the value of commenting for most sites or blogs. This, though, is a total ge changer.
We'll be adding this as an option for our SBI! Clients. I'm sharing this with our 9,000 followers to see who well this works. :-)

I think I figure it out. You load the blog as an admin, and then choose to change the "Post as" options to your Facebook page, like I did here.

I see a lot of potential in this. When the new SBI site builder tool is rolled out, if this Facebook commenting system is an option, it will probably be the death of my blogs.
I enjoy the conversations on pages I write, but I don't like constantly updating WordPress (new updates, plug-ins, etc).
The fact that comments are seen on the page we write as well as our news feeds on Facebook makes this a big deal. I look forward to seeing how it plays out.

The "..and it’s something that nobody else can do" part is not entirely correct. There is in fact someone.
This comment-syncing model is widely accepted on the Russian-speaking Internet, ever since Vkontakte.ru (Vk.com) – Facebook's chief competitor in the region – implemented a very similar widget last fall. http://vkontakte.ru/developers.php?o=-17680044&p=Comments (that one also allows you to post media items).

Please get rid of this. I prefer Disqus. This pisses me off so much, I don't want my Facebook (friends) to be even nearly connected with my work/geek life. I don't see the advantages. Your AOL overlords have made this happen.
Come on techcrunch, you've let me down.

Terrible idea to do this. Here's why:
1) Why would Google & Twitter join the party? For the first time they can make Facebook look like fools. Yahoo & Facebook is not enough to roll this out. I'll bet Techcrunch walk away from this and Facebook take it back into dev. There it will die. I would not run it on the sites I run for these very reasons. I very happy with Disqus.
2) On my wall give people a choice to reply 'Just On FB' OR 'On & Off FB' not just the latter.

2 1 Mart, 14:22

4) The spacing formatting I applied on Techcrunch in my comment is gone.
Any more reasons needed? Facebook: backburner and more dev now. Before anyone really thinks this is a serious rollout and you lose face a la Google...(buzz/wave/latitude et al)

Interesting that, with the new 'Facebook Pages as people' functionality, companies' Facebook Pages can now comment on external sites and have those comments aggregated on the pages themselves. It'll be interesting to see how that dynic plays out.

I'm going to test this feature & post this comment to my FB profile--where I just posted a link to a blog post I wrote WARNING my friends about this: http://bit.ly/hRXElK.
So, dear friends, if you comment on this comment, make SURE you know where your words are appearing: inside Facebook, or out here on TechCrunch.com where I'm originating the link.
I don't think the problem of people inadvertently sending private comments out to the world is at all a small one.

Like buttons on TechCrunch? That's fine, nobody's forcing me to use it. Facebook commenting on TechCrunch, and every other blog I ever bother to comment on? That disturbs me. I love commenting on blogs and participating in the conversation, but I don't want all this data going through facebook for obvious reasons. This feature will bring local social networks to its knees because websites will install only one social commenting system and facebook has the best reach to bring additional traffic to the websites.
For exple russian Facebook clone Vkontakte has similar commenting system, but social network sharing features are much weaker, thus ensuring webmaster support for Facebook comments.

I really, REALLY like the idea of using Facebook for a commenting system, but my biggest concern, one that's happened using Disqus in the past, is what happens if something goes wrong and their system goes down? With Disqus, suddenly all the comments on the blog posts were gone. When I use WordPress' built-in commenting system, those comments are in MY system on MY site. So as excited as I to see this, there's still a bit of a concern about that. And yes, as mentioned in the article, some people will not want to post a comment as themselves in Facebook.
1 2 Mart, 11:13

Oh...I C...you mean I'm slowly being FORCED to use a FB or Yahoo or Twitter account in order to make a comment or have my say? This is outrageous! Must surely be close to the end of privacy now...maybe the end of democracy as we believe it to be. Wow! They've really got us by the boom boom! Beyond that, the re-posting of the exact se info to additional web pages or accounts is ridiculous! A bit like double handling. Also means that information will be doubled, tripled, quadrupled etc everywhere and may remain in existence for many years to come...in time, slowly clogging up the net with absolute crap! People should really get the point that 99% of all comments/ blogs are only ever read by the author!

530 comments and counting. Wit no comment karma or other means of emphasizing the important content, this is going to totally kill commenting on popular websites like TechCrunch. Do it like they do it on Slashdot or don't do it at all.
On the other hand, it can be a real killer feature for small sites that normally would have zero or very few comments, with all interactions moving to Facebooks and Twitters or the world.

Its bad enough the internet never deletes your old information, but now we have comment sections which will display our current image and ne. Seems ripe for a worm to collect FB login or user id numbers to say the least which can then be manipulated in other tools to cause all sorts of havoc.

Interesting, and I'd love to try this but that "one big flaw" will probably keep me waiting. I love the possible integration and relationship between Facebook and my blogs, however - Facebook can't be the only way people can login/comment.

One caveat: the user can´t choose what URL associate with the comment (Its alway the facebook page for that user).
And sometimes in different situations you want to leave different URLs.

Facebook's new external comment system is great for one reason: it enables Companies to have an identity and comment easily out on the web which will provide new ways for Community & Facebook page managers to share relevant content to their fans.

What a great new plug in to allow those who love to comment with value content to be recognized by their real ne and this will show who steps up and plays in the big field or who continues to post comments that are not relevant and nto spming and selling in your face.

It seems pretty clear to me. The comment button even makes it stupid-simple.. it says "Comment on TechCrunch". Pretty plain to me that this will be going out to the world (of course, I knew that already by posting a comment anywhere on the internet). I don't understand what the problem is.
· 1 Mart, 14:07
Al Tepper
Terrible idea to do this. Here's why:
1) Why would Google & Twitter join the party? For the first time they can make Facebook look like fools. Yahoo & Facebook is not enough to roll this out. I'll bet Techcrunch walk away from this and Facebook take it back into dev. There it will die. I would not run it on the sites I run for these very reasons. I very happy with Disqus.
2) On my wall give people a choice to reply 'Just On FB' OR 'On & Off FB' not just the latter.
...Devını Gör

Your 5th point makes the argument that web services shouldn't expand their features because some users might be too ignorant to understand them? That's ridiculous; if people can't understand how the internet works, then they need to educate themselves. They shouldn't be used as munition to stall progress.

Another big issue - who owns your comments? With disqus, they're synced with comments on the server...in case you decide to move, or do something database related with them (like automatically picking a winner of a prize from comments). It sounds like Facebook will actually own the conversation on your site...

TechCrunch can get the comments via an API and store them on their serverside - so essentially, just as before (and like in most commenting platforms) because you're commenting on TechCrunch, TechCrunch can keep your comments.
