Facebook reveals Memology(Top Trends) 2011-INDIA &GLOBAL
Hitwise: For The Third Year In A Row, Facebook Was The Top-Searched Term In The U.S. | TechCrunch
@Ciarán Norris
"In fact, Google+ oddly didn’t even make it on Hitwise’s Top 10 list of search terms for 2011". Hitwise are counting total searches, Zeitgeist is fastest growing. If you're growing from a zero base...
@Robby King
I think this is largely indicative of how users have evolved in how they use search: rather than using search engines to seek out unknown answers, people are using their search engine the way OS X's Spotlight or Win7's Start Menu search were intended: as shortcuts to commonly accessed (web) applications.
@Aaron Berlin
For the Xth year in a row, Experian Hitwise demonstrates yet again that most people don't really know what a URL bar is for.
@Gleb Esman
Yeah, but often google gives you one-click access to otherwise convoluted, long and hard to find login URL
@Sudarshan Pant
Gleb Esman i don't think facebook login has long url you can login on homepage too. perhaps it's related to facebok connect.
@Danny McCallon Davis
In unrelated news, I just did a google search for how to find the URL bar so I could type www.google.com to do a search...
@Pierre Foucart
The result is just one click away .com is 4 more types...
@Jane Felice
Right! Knowing this obvious fact, Hitwise should talk about that in their news release and look beyond the portals, engines, email sites to search terms that really matter. Plus, they don't/can't count Google searches?! Their sample size is another reason their data is less relevant.
@Andrew Price
People are still using mapquest? Really?
@Julian Hugh
Why would you even need to search for Facebook?
@Sudarshan Pant
Who searches for www.facebook.com instead of typing it into the addressbar?
@Kade O'Keefe
I think you'll find a lot of people (mainly ones that barely know how to turn their computers on) will have sites like google etc set as their home page and either its easier for them or they think that's the spot to do it and use the big 'address bar' (namely the search box) in the middle to go places instead of the tiny little tucked away address bars (specially in IE9), either that or people are just becoming progressively more retarded...
@Jeff Saruwatari
oldpeople.
@Atul Singh
Kade O'Keefe but they barely 1-2% how can they impact billion search
@Dave Almaguer
Notice the lack of "bing" searches.
@Scott Buscemi
Bye myspace :(
@Josh Solomon
lol i find myself on my myspace every few months or so, then think 'lol wtf am I doing?' and go back on facebook.
@Louis Grenzebach
The stupid thing is no one is searching for it. They're too ignorant to type Facebook.com in the URL bar. I read awhile back that for a lot of people, the Google search bar has become the URL bar. No one wants to navigate to a place, they want to go read on a result.
@Kyle Sexson
just a question, does this include the I'm feeling lucky searches when you just type a word into the address bar?
@Ben Leppke
Doubtful, I think they separate those. Also it's funny to see MySpace completely drop off the list.
@Kyle Sexson
I just know that the majority of the time I go to any of those sites, I don't type the URL I just type the main word and hit enter, which would lead to lots of hits for facebook without me actually 'searching' for facebook.
@Karl Franks
Searching for "facebook login"? Shock horror guys I've discovered something: you can login from *gasp* the HOMEPAGE! (I know right, shocking news).
@Martin Crampton
Unsexy classifieds (Craig's list & eBay) still up there!
@Arvin Setiawan
Any other search engine besides google... Useless
