Article: "Facebook’s lean startup style".
Crunchbase footer: "Funding: $2.34B".
sorry just made me chuckle.

"Right now, Facebook simply doesn’t have the resources to divert attention to P2P payments"
800million reported users. Made me chuckle on the poor monetization to user ratio.
This is why Google and other companies are pounding it - making real revenues.

Lean relative -- employee count compared to global user base and impact. Facebook is still at about 1 engineer per 2 million users. That's pretty lean.

Ad targeting of Open Graph activity, especially once the "Want" and "Own" social plugins are in place, will be huge.

The send money App is a good innovation to let people allow social payments.
yet alone a flood of spam apps will be popping up like SendMoneys, MoneySend and with improper use of https controls, hence leading to a question are social payment extremely safe?
find teh in depth review and pictures here.

Facebook is the best partner in the world. Like with Spotify, Facebook will someday bend over backwards to make PayPal-On-Facebook a hit, especially after PayPal agrees to kick some back. I applaud this visionary analysis... http://tinyvox.com/t6m THANKS!

The bad thing is that we still need our friend's email in order to send them the money. If they aren't registered to paypal, they need to register. With that said I'll just keep using PayPal to send money since I find it easier to just use a pure peer to peer payment platform. If Facebook wants to dominate in that field and acquire people who think similarly as me (it will be millions of people), then they should think about something that will keep users within Facebook.

How is this even remotely news? Most credit unions (not sure on banks, haven't used em in a long time) online bill pay lets you send money to anyone via snail mail (or electronic transfer with a tiny bit of effort.) And you pay no fees on either side. Paypal and the like is for cases where you don't know the other person and you are looking for common ground and risk insurance (well, to some degree.) Or is the news here that I could friend a charity, send them money that is less (because of paypal fess) than if I sent a check or went directly to their website? What am I missing here?

I agree, the PayPal Send Money relaunch isn't really news, that's why I relegated it to a paragraph of an opinion piece rather than covering it outright in 6 paragraphs as most other news outlets did.

When I saw the article picture and title, first thing came to mind was that because of Peter Thiel was the first investor giving 500k to fb. So why would fb compete against Paypal directly? Thiel would beat the crap out of Zuckerberg if he did.

Every problem has a solution.(Josh thanks for the ideas) Facebook is missing the boat on this one. Think Zuckerberg. What is the online reputation of Paypal? Is P2P the future of online transactions? What happens if Google/Amazon get into the "credits" game? Something to ponder over the weekend:)

Halleluiah, there will be a better life for all after the clunky PreyPal sinks to the bottom of the ocean, along with its ugly mother, the rusting old hulk “eBay”.

What's the point of "social" Paypal payments? to show off on your wall, Hey I just sent money?
Facebook right with its no P2P but they got to let advertisers/developers be able to distribute credits without dealing through ifeelgoods.
