How to Create Google+ Pages for Business, Brands and Websites ?

Andre Gonsalves · Toronto, Ontario
It's overkill from the users stand point. Like this, share that, digg this, tweet that, stumble upon, reddit, follow, plus one, it's like these companies think we are mindless button pushers. I do realize the irony of my comment by the way.

Overkill, maybe. It's not overkill to the point where people are disenfranchised from it, though. I think the problem is, they failed to launch +Pages with the site badge for one-click following, something that only became available today or yesterday.

Since brand pages have only been out for a week, and not many of them have even posted regular content yet, it is extremely early to be comparing it with Facebook. However, this will not stop the flurry of trolls to follow in this thread. :)

Sigh....you do realize that it takes TIME to build a user base right? That the brand Pages have only been out for a few days (weeks?) now on google+? Coke might have millions on facebook but its not like they went from 0 to a million in one night. Just cause google hit the go button on brand pages doesn't mean the facebook users automatically thought "oh geez let me go there and hit +1 and circle them right now!".

it takes time. And promotions. Many of those 'millions' of likes and fallows on facebooks pages are from promotions. the "click Like or fallow and we'll give u this " kind of stuff. Soon as the companies start saying "like AND +1 us" or "fallow us on both and we'll give u this", their fan followers will increase.

I hate how these bait articles try and get the fan boys of one or the other to come and be 'active' by ranting to and about each other. "facebook rules" "google rocks" "g+ is dead" "facebook is old"..etc..

I have both..like both. And I think g+ will continue to grow and that facebook is not going to dissapear.

I agree, its not a war, most people with G+ also have FB, and I don't expect that change. I think these brands are creating their G+pages in order to "cover their bases."

And it takes some patience on the user's part. Some of those companies have far less content on them (and fewer followers) than the fan pages of those brands. Give this a little time, people.

Could sure use a bit of sharing..

How ironic is it that the cigarette brand has no social media presence? I find it interesting Coke and McDonals, which now have a mediocure reputation in this health-obsessed 21st century, are very low on the social media totem pole. Just find it very interesting, that's all.

I'd be interested to know if tech brands are doing better than non-tech brands, because the TC G+ page seems to be doing well relative to the Facebook page: https://plus.google.com/103037366582313115962/posts.

My opinion from the start was that Google would develop something very clever and technically outstanding, but no-one would use it. I wonder if Google Offers will be able to follow in Groupon's footsteps? It seems to me that the big G is becoming a bit of a follower nowadays...

The SEO part of this is a brilliant move by Google. Google+ pages, likely because they're more open with content, rank higher in search results. Thus driving brands in the long run to want to create these pages. FB to react, will need to open up their content to stay at parity, which helps Google with one of their long running problems of FB content being in a walled garden close to Google crawlers.

Plus 12 years deep of indexed search engine data and behavior already in place. I think G understands me more than I do. But no worries, it's all good stuff...

Dude, General Electric's verified brand page is on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/110314956305265183882/posts). Please get your facts right before you post!

Think they really made a mistake by having a very public invite only beta. Tons of traffic about the network, yet only a few could get in. Lost the fire. I got in early, but only a small percentage of my friends could join. Lots will never come back if they can't get in right away.

Does anyone know the postal address for techcrunch. I emailed them and they didn't reply for a week or so. But basically have a custom techcrunch themed illustration I want to send them on printed canvas.

Right now active users on google+ are mostly tech enthusiast, chef, food blogger, photographers, and very niche groups of people, so its not surprising that not every brand will perform well. But these brands definitely did the right thing by joining early.

Another thing: no vanity URLs for G+ Brand pages makes it kinda complicated to use the G+ page in a media other than the internet where you can add the link. If you could use plus.google.com/TUMARCA same as facebook.com/TUMARCA then you could use that in printed media.
Also, marketing people need to find out a way that G+ pages are usefull to the brands.

"About 53 percent of the Top 100 brands".
About? Just count the brands and that's the number, it's an integer.
Also, who says '53 percent out of 100'? Isn't the redundancy a bit redundant?

Michael D. Wailes · Johnstown, Colorado
Isn't 61-percent of the top 100 brands simply 61 of the top 100 brands? #crazymath

Google+ is paving the way. It simply needs more woods for wilder fire. And woods.. may not be costly. http://www.fgwar.com/

Measuring traction at this point against established properties like Facebook is just stupid. Takeup needs time, it won't happen overnight that's for sure.

Recently Google launched their Brand Page, which will help bring more people on Google+. Companies can do live video chats with their customers through the Brand Page. Google is working towards having multiple admins on the Brand Page, somewhat like Facebook, who will maintain and control the page. From a business point of view, Google Plus pages are more effective and can easily promote brands. This is because even people outside of your "circles" can view the Brand Page. The Brand Page also has an upperhand as one has access to Google's other sevices and tools, like search engine, documents, Google Maps, shopping, videos, news, places, etc. With these advantages it certainly looks as though Google Plus is going to win the race in the coming years.
