danny is right, what kindle fire would do is to make amazon's fork of android the dominant version and just like kindle app was agnostic even the kindle tablet might become agnostic so samsung might come out with one. what amazon cares about is that the samsung kindle tablet should carry the amazon store as its content delivery store.
another great point made was by robert who said that while hardware would matter, it might no longer decide the success because we are entering the age of personalization (not to benefit the user, I might add) that benefits the marketeers. so only the owners of data blackholes like google, twitter, salesforce but especially facebook would be the sole arbiters of success in this age of convergence.

In a youth-oriented tech culture, it's nice to see intelligent middle-age men discussing and bantering "all things tech" and social media. Adding a female commentator might widen your audience.
I begrudgingly agree with Danny Sullivan's preference for a universe of multiple Borgs.

Pls consider using the word ecumenical rather than agnostic when referring to multi-device/platform compatibility. Ecumenical means "open to all" agnostic means I'm not reallllly sure iOS or Andriod exist. Word-wonks world wide thank you!
